I ran across a used Whipple Twin Screw polished kit today. It comes with all brackets, hardware, Volant CAI, etc. No manual or wiring diagram. I'm not sure about the mileage, the guy that has it took it off of a 03 Tahoe for a used car lot. The Tahoe had 100k on it but I don't know about the SC. Probably nowhere near that many miles. Any opinions? He wanted $900, I offered him $500. He said he would take $750. Are these any good?

See the forced induction forum. You will not get much cooperation from whipple. They frown on the used market and do anything they can to make revenue off of you while helping you out. You will request a wiring diagram, but they wont send it to you until you send in your unit for a $1,200 "inspection" or rebuild. Also, they wont send you or give you the piggy back fmu system they use unless you cooperate with them. I bet you will be out $3k by the time you get it on the truck. they also dont upgrade the fuel injectors. The use two additional injectors to compensate for fuel. Not the greatest. You will need a set of injectors, fuel pump upgrade, custom tuning, custom air intake to the blower, etc. I personally think it will be a mess for not that much gain. Thats not to say there arent any whipple trucks running around. You might want to try performancetrucks.net I think more over there use whipple than here.

to put it short............ if you like all 8 cylinders, i recomend not going with the whipple. the only right way to make it work is get an intank fuel pump (walbro 255 lph is prime) and some 42lb injectors, and then a custom tune. then at least we will have all 8 cylinders for more than 30k miles, but the air is still hot as sh!t. bottom line: IMO ive fixed enough whippled trucks (mainly motor swaps) to know that its not such a good idea. but the fuel management they come with is whats beyond words- SHIT SHIT SHIT, etc etc.

Agreed with the above. The Whipple unit by itself is a great s/c; it's the piss poor fuel management system that you have to get rid of. When I first bought mine (used as well on ebay) I hooked it up with the piggyback CPU and more detonation than I'm willing to admit to. I tried everything under the sun and every time I called Whipple they were real good at asking what code it threw and then told me that's normal and you have a problem with your PCM or engine -blaming everything but their crap electronics. I finally smartened up and ditched their POS Whippletronics (I still have it if you REALLY want it - don't think you will) and went with Delco Multitec 42 lbs marine injectors and a custom PCM tune from PCMforless and let's just say before the injectors my RWHP was a pathetic 278HP and after I dumped their crap I dynoed at 361RWHP; this is on a 2000 GMC Sierra with the 5.3L. You would see bigger gains on the 6.0L. For that price GET the Whipple and you'll have plenty $$ leftover for the injectors, PCM tune and headers. Good luck

yup, you nailed it. knock is unheard of with that thing, and thats on every car i have installed it on. not to mention this performance shop that sends us EVERY whippled vehicle they do. every vehicle comes in for knock, and if the owner was too dumb to recognize knock..... a replacement motor lol. just finished ripping the FMU off another H2 that came from this shop... whipple kit and shit loads of knock. and if you dont do anything about it, say bye bye to cylinder #7 and 8

I have a whipple and have to say it's a pretty good unit... except for their "craptronics". They are horrible. I got rid of most of that stuff and rewired some of the connections to the PCM. Blocked off the aux injectors. Now it's custom tune and 42lb. injectors. Much, much better! Still a lot of room to improve- gotta work on the tuning a little bit more.

My wipple has been pretty good to me so far, but I hear what you guys are saying! Just finished rebuilding the motor( not because of the wipple, was changing heads and cam and decided to do it from the bottom up.)turned it into a 408" c.i.d. Now I'm looking to do away with the B.A.P. and the wipple fuel control system. If I disconnect all their stuff will the truck still run?(after installing new fuel pump and bigger injectors)

Sorry for the thread jack but I cant start my own...... I don't usually see the wipples but one came today. Only 4psi max and a lean A/F, I have some work to do but is 4PSI the norm? Whipple won't tell me shot. Oh stock exhaust with a flowmaster (not helping out) Thanks TODD.

No 4 psi is not the max the kit comes stock at 6psi. I am having the same trouble 4 psi max on boost and 48 psi max on the fuel pressure side. I have upgraded the fuel pump, injectors and tune and now having the same issues you are. Have you figured your problem out yet?

This is a customers truck, I found this truck to be way to lean and down on power. I will disable the extra injector garbage and install large injectors with a custom tune. Headers and exhaust will follow to get a good start. Also a boost leak may be an issue as well, it did sound funny at the time of dyno.

I had no problems with my whipple system in fact the stock pump was capable up of making 60psi of fuel pressure. I changed the injectors, tune, and pump and now having the same problems you are having with your customer's truck. Only making 4psi of boost and 48 psi of fuel pressure. Today I changed the fp regulator but still having the same problems. Please let me know once you get your customer's truck working properly. thanks
