J. Yates Posted April 25, 2007 Report Posted April 25, 2007 I was wondering if anyone knows what is a good replacement tire for the SS besides the Goodyears I am in need of new tires and want something that looks good on there and do good in the winter. Quote
SS Silv Posted April 25, 2007 Report Posted April 25, 2007 Slicks I have always like Toyo's. I have Toyo Proxes, but they wouldn't work well in the winter. Maybe some Open Countrys? Quote
lgetz Posted April 25, 2007 Report Posted April 25, 2007 Sumitomo has a 285/50/20. Don't have them on my SS but have some 275/40/17 on a 92 Vette and they're pretty good for the money. Quote
hot rod truck Posted April 25, 2007 Report Posted April 25, 2007 (edited) I just put Pirelli Scorpion ATR 275/55/20. Quiet, good dry/wet traction, very good in the snow compared to the stock Goodyears. 50,000 mile rated. Downside, they are heavier than the stock Goodyears $140.00 each @ Discount Tire Pirelli ATR @ Discount Tire Edited April 25, 2007 by hot rod truck (see edit history) Quote
CoolBlueSS Posted April 25, 2007 Report Posted April 25, 2007 I put General Grabber UXPs on mine about 6 months ago. I love them so far. They're rated as more of a summer tire, but thety do great in the rain. We had a couple of snow/ice days this winter, and they did fine. Much better than the original Goodyears. Quote
Hankg42 Posted April 25, 2007 Report Posted April 25, 2007 I have been running Yokohama Parada Spec-X (stock size) for about a month. Definite upgrade over Goodyear (wet and dry handling, ride). I'll have to run them a bit longer to add any more comments, though. Quote
Rays B4U Posted April 25, 2007 Report Posted April 25, 2007 Take a look at Cooper Tires, they have the Discoverer H/T Plus and it comes in our factory size. I don't have them yet, but they are what I plan on buying when my Goodyears need replacing. Quote
zippy Posted April 25, 2007 Report Posted April 25, 2007 I have Hankook RH06's on my truck and have liked them in all weather so far. Quote
H8R Posted April 25, 2007 Report Posted April 25, 2007 Love the Grabber I put on my SSS..Got them for an awesome price.... 285/50/20.. Grip well, and hold nice turns... A little noiser then the GY EAgles but .... not that bad. Better ride quality by far! Quote

perk03z06 Posted April 25, 2007 Report Posted April 25, 2007 I've had Yokohama AVID SUV's on my SS for almost 25000 miles now ... barely noticed any wear on them ... I feel good that they'll last a long time. I think it's safe to say that pretty much any tire out here will outperform the stock Goodyears. I was amazed when I got my Yokes on how much of a difference they made ... I can't even chirp them ... Heck, I can't even get them to break loose when it rains ... BUT ... they make an awesome wet and dry weather tire. Quiet, too. Picked them up for $125 ea. from a distributor in Asheville, NC. Quote
jlanders Posted April 25, 2007 Report Posted April 25, 2007 Nitto 420's work good. I have been happy with the Nitto 420's. Look good and good traction. Quote
johnny5th Posted April 25, 2007 Report Posted April 25, 2007 I love my Road Hugger XRT's from Discount Tire. They look sweet and so far i have been impressed with the traction. Discount Tire Quote
