Some local Tire stores are now filling tires with nitrogen. They say there is less wear and increases the longevity of the tire? WTF?

Is any Tire stores in your area offering this same service?

they have been doing that for a few years now down here..

I figured that since North Dakota is usually the last place to get something new.

Is it worth doing?

yeah i heard the claims that filling with nitrogen is supposed to be better, but i just can't see paying to put nitrogen in my tires to MAYBE get a few extra miles out of them when air is free.

from what ive heard theres only certain tires that can really take nitro in them, and are made specifially for that. could be wrong though, not sure

I find that 78% pure nitrogen is good enough.

:withstupid::crackup: And with the way I drive I don't think there's anything that'll help my tire wear... :driving:

it is simple physics, and yes it works with all tires... do you remember my tire post awhile back? This is another thing that we learned...

Nitrogen is denser than Oxygen: This means the larger molecules escape less easily from tires resulting in a more gradual loss of pressure over time. According to the Michelin Tire Manual, a tire that is inflated with Nitrogen loses its pressure 3 times slower than if it were inflated with air.

Nitrogen is moisture free: Pure Nitrogen inflated tires experience less steel belt and rubber degradation. Nitrogen use also reduces valve and wheel corrosion.

Nitrogen provides longer tire life: Nitrogen inflated tire run cooler and require less maintenance according to the Goodyear application bulletin.

Nitrogen is non-flammable: Nitrogen technology has been used in aircraft, military and race car technology for over thirty years. And yea, normal air in your tires IS flammable...

most tire shops in my area use it, i know that many costco's will fill all off your tires up for around 5-10 bucks... i have nitrogen in my 24's since the day after i purchased them 6 months ago...

its cheap, so why not? I say go for it...

also nitrogen is more stable than just plain air building less pressure as the tires heat up

i used to put freon in my right rear tire on my sprint car. as the tire heated up the freon

would build up more pressure giving me more stager as the race wore on keeping my

car loose.

i have nitrogen in my tires on all my vehicles.

Thanks for the info BodyGuard, sounds like tommarow my tires will be filled with nitrogen.

How much horsepower will I gain :jester::crackup:
