fast4popper Posted May 9, 2007 Report Posted May 9, 2007 I'm lookin to lower my SS a lil more. was thinking 3 or 4 inches TOTAL drop (i'm at 2" now), wondering what is the right way to do this? also at the same time I am doing a Hotchkis kit on the sway bars. any help? I have a line on a "Ground Force" kits which is new front coils, shocks all around, rear hangers and mounts. is this a decent kit? also what can I do for shocks at this ride height? I know the kit comes with them, but would pay more for a decent shock. thanks all. Quote
SD619SS Posted May 9, 2007 Report Posted May 9, 2007 Are trucks do not have coils up front, you need belltech 2" drop spindles up front and shackles and hangers out back of any decent brand. You can also get 1 or 2 more inches up front by adjusting the torsion bar,as far as shocks I am running Bilstiens and I love em Quote
kaotik1 Posted May 9, 2007 Report Posted May 9, 2007 Spindles(knuckles) up front with drop keys, and in the rear use the leaf packs with hangers, that should get you to where you want to be. I would also use the Nitro shocks all the way around. Quote
foxySS Posted May 9, 2007 Report Posted May 9, 2007 I wouldn't go with Ground Force. Go with Belltech/Mcgaughys/Hotchkis. Most of the ground force products I've seen really did not ride all too great. Just my .02 Quote

fast4popper Posted May 9, 2007 Author Report Posted May 9, 2007 Are you still on stock GM rims and tires? yes I am for NOW.... lookin at some 22's.... what you thinking? Quote
SSThunder Posted May 9, 2007 Report Posted May 9, 2007 yes I am for NOW.... lookin at some 22's.... what you thinking? I'm thinking of a drop in the future and I was wondering about what size rim/tire combo will work with your drop and the 2/3 drop. I'm looking at adding the eagle alloy 026 20" rims to my ss and drop it 2/3 or something like that in the future. Quote

I'm looking at adding the eagle alloy 026 20" rims to my ss and drop it 2/3 or something like that in the future. I'm down 2 inches right now. its decent but I like to be a lil more than the norm... so 3 inches is what I am thinking. from my research, there is a decent McHaughys kit on Ebay for like 380 that is pretty much what you want to do. that isnt a bad price either. I did mine by twisting the torsion bars and it works, but I am maxed out on the alignment. also dont forget to cut your bounce stops as they will get in the way. good luck man Quote
misterp Posted May 9, 2007 Report Posted May 9, 2007 The McGaughy's deluxe kit is a mixed bag; that's what I've got on my truck. The front 2" spindles combined with 1" drop keys will give 3" drop and you'll be at the absolute outside limits on alignment specs. The problem with the McGaughys is that they use a custom leaf spring front perch in addition to the longer rear shackles, and the front perch totally screws up the pinion angle as well as raises the instant center in the truck - short story = rear pinion vibrations + 0.1-sec slower at the track. The pinion angle can be mostly corrected with shims, mine was so bad that I had to actually cut the rear-end loose, rotate the pinion down, and re-weld the perches; it's still not right. Another option I would highly recommend is that you call DJM and ask about their 3/5 Calmax kit; it uses custom control arms rather than different spindles. It's more expensive however the truck will have great alignment. Shocks - with a 3" drop you are going to need different shocks, I think I was told the stroke length will be 9.5" - 12.5" but that's my memory there, better double-check that. Mr. P. Quote
