The 454 moniker sold the truck, not its power. It had some descent torque. Here is a blurb from car and driver. Unless he has alot of bolt-ons like headers, exhaust, N2O, cam, heads, or something, You will blow his doors off. We run mid 6sec 0-60 stock and about 15.0 in the quarter, you will win.

Based on a regular-cab, short-bed C/K pickup, the 454 was accomplished at stoplight launching and donut dancing. Under its hood was a huge 7.4-liter V-8 producing 255 horsepower and, more significant, a pavement-splitting 405 pound-feet of torque at only 2400 rpm. With all that twist available so low on the power band, the rear-drive 454SS could rip to 60 mph in 7.1 seconds and trip the quarter-mile in 15.7 seconds at 87 mph. Looking back 10 years, those numbers are still respectable.

Sounds like he's young AND stupid. Tell him you'll be willing to race as long as you get to honk the horn to start the contest. The race should be over before his truck moves.............. :D

Check under his hood before racing though, if it's mostly stock, you got it with ease. I mistakenly found myself up against a Silverado 454SS, though it was no longer a 454, but a 572 instead. Beat 'em off the light, but those 600 - 700 horses caught up pretty freakin quick. Judged a book by it's cover, and paid the price for being wrong. Though the guy wouldn't race me on a road with any turns on it though, or on a rainy day, lol. Still trying to redeem myself :P

i have a 454 ss, and honestly, i don't think my intimidator was any faster stock. The big issue with my 454 is traction, if i can get it to hook up it takes off, but most days it just wants to smoke the tires off. If you are stock, check and see what mods he has, because mine is only lightly modded and I have smoked a few camaros.
