BlackSS04
I took my truck in this mouring for the install, and they could not get around the exhaust to drop the tranny. The guys that did my exhaust work hardly put in any flanges, so i had to take it to the exhaust shop and have them weld in some flanges just so they can drop the tranny. :banghead:: there's another $150 down the drain. now my trucks getting that done now, and i have to wait untill tomm. to get the tranny work done. And how does $670 sound to you guys for the tbtc/shift kit install? Thats the lowest price I could find. Edit- and the guys at the tranny shop said that its going to shift hard as shit with these servos. are the shifts really that neck breaking and i guess that its not good for the tranny. and do the hard shifts get annoying when your not trying to go fast. (like when your in a parking lot or something) Edited May 15, 2007 by BlackSS04 (see edit history)
Black2003SS
$670 is a steal for a shift kit tc install. I paid $400 just for my tc install. So $270 for shift kit install seems fair, especially if you want them to take their time. As far as shift kits go, I dont have one installed yet, but I had one in my TCI th350 trans in my 78 camaro and it was neck breaking/harsh even in a parking lot. BlackSS04
I could imagine that the hard shifts are annoying in parking lots and such. Do you guys that have it ever get used to it?
Black2003SS
What kit do you have? Some kits have different levels of settings for the shift firmness...have them put the lightest ones in. Edit: I see you have the zippy kit. Call zippy and discuss your concerns with him. No one has ever complained about his product that I can recall. Edited May 15, 2007 by Black2003SS (see edit history)

detjoe
sucks about the exhaust, I always wonder what guys will do when they weld their Longtubes to the offroadpipe. I have what you are getting. Tell the trans shop that quick shifts reduces the heat in the clutch packs...extending the life of the trans, you tuner can bump the shift points, but only to a point. it is a big SOTP difference. The cooler is needed for the converter or you might notice higher tranny temps. It is neck snapping...but in the best way, you truck will feel faster (till you goto the track) Make sure you get a tune, I drove mine for a while b/c Zippy did not have his cable to flash my computer, w/o a tune and it was ok but after the tune it was a completely different beast... I didn't know shifts kits actually make the tranny live longer. ya see, i learn something new everyday. well, there goes my worries about the shift kit hurting the tranny. and you think i will be needing the cooler with my tbtc? Mr.P said to install it without the cooler, and if the temps go above 170, then go and get the cooler put on. I think I am going to do that first. rivierakid55
talk to zippy cause there is a way to minimize that 1-2 harsh shift by doing something with some kind of spring if i recall - maybe in the 1-2 servo?. mine shifts pretty firm but is progressively firmer the higher up in the rpm band i am which i believe is what you want. sucks bout the headers and exhaust but thats part of the problem of the pacesetters without collectors is that it is a fully welded system. even with my dynatechs i still have to loosen them from the collectors to clear the extra deep trans pan when removing it. I went without one during the winter but once the weather warmed up the cooler was needed.
gs430
I have a zippy shift kit installed.Did not do torque converter yet.Yes it does break your neck, even in the parking lot.It had the torque management removed.
CNE
Mine leaps forward when it shifts and shifts hard. Even at like 1/4 throttle it shifts hard. But at very light throttle, it just bumps a little. What gets on my nerves is the TAC being so sensitive whe it shifts at lighter throttle your foot lifts a little and it makes it sound like you are letting off and getting back on the gas. I can see that happening. Almost like when you go over railroad tracks or a hump in the road, and your foot lifts off the gas and then back down on it when your over the hump, and it sounds like your revin to other people on the road.
