SS Silv
Well, I will be expecting to have a funeral for my tranny any day . It is slipping and it sounds like my torque converter is knocking. Put it this way, I don't know much about transmissions, but should I replace the whole thing or have it rebuilt? No warranty on the truck, 92,000 miles I think I will be the first person to hit 100,000 miles on this site. Also, what should I expect to pay for a new transmission? Thanks. vmax2fast
I had a 95 k1500 I just had my dealership throw in a rebuild... They gave me a pretty good price and a 100k mile warranty! (probably cause I sent my wife in to negotiate w/ the service manager.... she always gets better deals!!!) Why not go for the 4l80e? It'd be the last time you delt with the tranny prob!! drako
I say a rebuild....but by a trusted shop. Dont just go for the lowest price, try and also get a warranty while your at it. It may be worthwhile to get a shift kit and a pcm tune while you are at it. Might as well give it some pep.
fordsareslow
My friends tranny just went out in his 01 GMC. His truck is stock so he didn't need a high performance built one. He bought from GM and had installed by the dealership a new one with a 3 year /100K mile warrenty for $200 more than all the local tranny shops wanted just to rebuild his. I think he paid somewhere around $2600 installed after tax and everything.
kelleyperformance
yea id go for a rebuild. when the shop rebuilding it takes it apart, if its a severe issue, replace it. but most likely its not a big ordeal. remember, everybodys rebuild will cost more or less depending on how many things need to be replaced
misterp
Rebuild it before it fails, that's the best plan if at all possible. The dealer is just going to remove your trans and throw in another reman unit... And the key is to find a GREAT transmission shop, the cost will not be much different than the local unskilled tranny rebuilder. Mr. P.
