detjoe
Hey, I found this cam local,TR 224/224 .563/.563 112lsa, $200 with push rods, 7.4's I think. What do my cam experts think?? I know I can buy one but I was hoping to get my cam mod before I tried to make it to the power tour...I am out of time, and did not have much money to start with:) I have a TBTC. thanks If this doesnt work, I am going to skip the power tour (it is so close to me this year I feel it might be important) and put the trip money into the truck, I have been mod-less for a year
packjh
any miles on the cam? Maybe a set of new valve springs would be a good idea too.
detjoe
I just found out it has 20K on it, so I am wondering if it is worth it. Yea springs would be mandatory. But is this worth it or should I just look bigger??
packjh
my cam is smaller but its all what your looking for. Id prolly get new pushrods those are something i just dont trust at all. And as on 20k for that price maybe somebody else could chime in.
zippy
My opinion is yes, go for it. That cam is close enough to what you'd want to run either way and for that price you wouldn't want to pass it up. Just buy a set of LS6 springs to go with it and get to installing. zippy
With your converter you won't even notice a difference down low. I've set up trucks with bigger cams than yours and the same converter. It'll drive and run like stock, except with more power.
detjoe
so far the parts list: cam 7.4 hardened rods Z06 springs (set-16) 12499224 Cam swap kit 12499228 Crank bolt. fluids. anything else??? I am trying to order today so I can try to install this this weekend. How will this run w/o a tune?? I need to heat cycle it once before I start tuning?? could I drive it 300 miles to get my tune w/o any problems?? This is looking better and better as I get the misc shit together and once I have parts in hand I will give you a call Zippy.

detjoe
I'm getting the ZO6 springs, my take on them is with the low lift they are equal to the 918, and possibly better with cold start issues and zippy told me to sealant, locktite. Now I have to see when this stuff gets here, I am trying to get the cam friday! EDIT: The Zo6 springs are on back order from both the place I was getting them and from GM?? So I might get the 918's after all. I just dont want to change springs yearly, but a new cam evey year might be cool
