back from a long weekend at yosemite

So got back this afternoon from 4 days of camping at Yosemite. For those of you that havent been, you really need to check it out at least once in your life. I had gone twice when I was too young to truly appreciate the amazing beauty that it has to offer. I know dcairns went a few months ago and he will probably know what im talking about here:

went to vernal falls/nevada falls one day (story about this later) - anyways it is a grueling 4.4 mile roundtrip hike to the top, pretty much straight uphill but the views are so worth it.

also went to glacier point and the mariposa grove another day to see the giant sequioa's and a view of the whole valley from about 8000 feet up.

went fishing for the better part of a 3rd day....didnt catch but a couple nasty brown trout but had a blast anyways. saw a couple brown bears outside the gas station at crane flat. the pictures didnt come out worth a chit though except that you can see one of the bear's eyes underneath one of the logs (should be the last picture)

so the story: hiking up to vernal falls there is a bridge that you stand over where the falls eventually turns into the Merced river. you can look up at the falls as well as down about 1000ft to see where the river begins. no more than fifteen minutes from returning to the bridge on the way back from the top, a woman is crying off to one side of the bridge. huddled around quite a few people word passes quikly that her husband/boyfriend/man person of some kind had just slipped in at a view spot between the bridge and the top of the falls. as you can see by the picture in the post (it is the 5th down), his chances of survival had to be slim at best. as we continued to the valley floor we saw about 4 rescue workers with boogie boards roaming the river banks in search of him. unfortunately we did not stay to hear an outcome and i have searched only briefly but could not find anything on this guy. scary to say the least.

so here's a few pics for you guys and of course one of the campmobile. great too be back and go through 11 pages of unread topics. and for all you guys griping about gas, well the picture speaks for itself.

thanks again for the new sig daryl and we'll see if we cant get those rear sway bars taken care for you real soon.

"Grueling"? ;) The top of Vernal falls is a pleasant 3 mile (round trip) hike, Nevada falls is a relaxed 7 mile day hike. Now Half Dome would be considered grueling at 17 miles.

Nice pictures, by the way. We were going to try and go back to Yosemite this spring, but it has not worked out :( Real hard to get reservations for campgrounds there.
