Got in an accident

It's not as bad as you think... I was not at fault, and I'm fine... Here it goes:

I was on my way home from my buddies house, I had just eaten a Mobile hot dog and i'm pretty sure it gave me food poisoning, so I was on my way home to get some sleep before work... I'm about 3 car-lengths behind a '90s Grand Marquis, going about 35mph (in a 40)... and a drunk woman (early 40s) comes around a slow bend at around 80mph... I saw her headlights on the trees and then the accident was in front of me in less than a second (literally). She dove into our lane, not slid/drifted/turned, but DOVE into oncoming traffic, and then quickly tried to correct her action by going back into her lane. At that point the Marquis had already began panic stopping (he hit his brakes so hard that he blew out both his tires and was sliding on the rims at 30mph), and they collided about 60 feet in front of me... I had begun to panic stop before they crashed, but didn't have the option to get out of the way until I was about 20 feet from the crash. I had enough time to get almost a full revolution on the steering wheel to the right, enough to get off the road but not enough to completely miss the tree... Annihilated the front left clip of my truck, I only hit the tree at about 20mph or less)... I got the heat burn from the powder of my air-bag, and almost went deaf from the on-star emergency call (for those of you who don't know, it turns the volume of your stereo ALL THE WAY UP)...

I have some pictures I'll post up later... I was just crying at the crash scene... My vehicles are like children to me... and I've had this one for less than 2 months and it's got less than 4k on it, and some drunk woman goes and ruins it's title... Hopefully insurance will completely cover the cost of the frame-straightening and the cosmetics (fender, grill, headlights, bumper, hood, and most likely all the components attached to the front left tire)...

I'll let you guys know how it turns out...

bummer man. I hate drunk driver's with a passion. My dad and I were hit by one head on when I was nine, I've had neck and back problems since then.... so it should be 11 years in August.

Its good to know you're not seriously injured, and like FireRescueSS said, the truck can be fixed/replaced alot easier than you can. In my opinion, any vehicle that can hold together in a collision and the driver can walk away from with little or no injuries has done its job, which most vehicles do. i've seen some cars that people should have walked away from, but didnt, because they weren't wearing their seat belts, and I have yet to see an accident where if someone hadn't been wearing their seat belt, they would have survived... it just doesn't happen.

how did the other people come out of the accident?

Sorry man, that's a hard situation. Glad you aren't all busted-up though. With what you describe they'll probably have to do what Holty did and replace the frame - it'll come out good I'm sure, just going to take time.

Wow man, sorry to hear about this. Like everyone else has said, the car can be fixed but you can't. I too know how you feel about your cars being like your own kids, thats how I feel about mine as well. What happened to the drunk b$#ch? I sure hope they put her butt in jail and charged her. Can they hold her responsible for the damage done to your truck as well, even though she didn't technically hit you?

Keep us posted.

One of the other drivers (the one who was in front of me and got hit by the drunk driver) got a broken nose and some facial burns from the airbag and went to the hospital for it (nothing too serious), and the woman who caused all this I don't really know... We yelled at her at the top of our lungs for a while and then the cops came and moved her to the other side of the scene... The only one that died was the woman's yellow lab, which went from the back seat into the windshield, and then had a heart attack... Out of everyone in the accident I feel the worst for it

Thanks for the support guys... I'm going down to the police station today to file the statement, and then over to the "secured facility" where my truck is ("" <- are there because even though the public can't get in, the employees steal stuff right out of your car and play the "what? that wasn't there" game)... I'll keep you all updated...

Still wishing you luck. Sorry about the dog, it didn't do anything wrong :( Do you know who is gonna be responsible for repairs yet? I know my Insurance will pay for it first, and then get their money from the other party as soon as they can.

I feel your pain. If you search my posts you will find my story of being smashed at only 5,000 miles. Hardest part for me was the three weeks my truck sat in the body shop while we waited for Chevy SS parts. I groaned each time I saw someone else drive by in an SS. The good part is that parts are replaceable, people are not. The bad part is that no matter how well we care for our vehicles, and not matter how much skill we have behind the wheel, we are no safer than the dumbest idiot with a cell phone glued to their ear.

I often say we should lobby for a law that allows us one free shot each year as driving circumstances warrant. "Perhaps this 9mm will answer any questions you might have"

  • 2 weeks later...

Well, here's the recent news:

I told my insurance company that I wanted to be there when the adjuster came to look at me truck, but of course that didn't happen... I had the truck moved down to a shop called the Diamond Collision Center (in Pocasset, MA). A couple of my friends are tow truck drivers and auto body specialists and they said that this place is the best bet in a couple hundred miles. I called them and within 5 minutes of being on the phone with them they had dispatched a flatbed to go get my baby... I went down to visit them (about a 40 minute drive), and got to talk to them about have nice Ram Air hood installed (I love the twin-scoop Good Hood, but am absolutely not going with a fiberglass hood, so I'm looking for a good steel one...), a nice billet grille, some stripes (blue ones, I've yet to decide on shade or style though), and a nicer headlight setup (see my other post about projectors)... Best of all of this is that my insurance company is going to end up paying for it... I haven't received my copy of the appraisal yet, so I don't know exactly how much damage was done, but at least the truck wasn't declared totaled.

Moral of the story: I should be back on the road in about a month or so...

That really sucks man, good luck with the adjuster. The broad that caused the accident needs to be smacked over the head with your bent fender. Your plans remind of the intro to the Bionic Man (yes, I'm showing my age) where the guy comes on and says "we can rebuild him better, faster and stronger than before."
