FINALLY - found the shift I've been looking for!

Recommended Posts

Well I finally took the time to change out the Vette servo in my truck for the Superior billet 2nd (aka Super Servo); I also dropped the valve body  and upgraded the accumulator valvetrain as well as reconfigured the guts of the 1-2 accumulator. The truck shifts FANTASTIC now, awesome awesome awesome - I'm so happy :D I can seriously tell the difference between this setup and the stock TransGo setup, this is THE way to go - the 1-2 shift grabs like a monster but since the accumulator is actually fully functional it's also damped very well (imagine that!).

I'm going to take a second look now at my tranny tables in EFILive, it's possible that they could be modified from stock, the low throttle behavior could stand to be domesticated just a hair, it's not needed but since I've got the software what-the-hell. I do need to still double-check my pin length, I measured 0.180" endplay in the servo cover and that might be a little excessive, I might need to lengthen the pin a hair but maybe not??? And that is the final issue.

AND CHECK THIS SH*T OUT! When I took apart my 1-2 accumulator I found damn-near a whole hardware store inside; whoever did this experiment needs to be schooled. :smash: I was always convinced that something was wrong with the 1-2 shift since my last rebuild, I guess I found the culprit:

im gonna look into this too. in riding around with justin last week talking about how hard i thought mine shifted into second he says something like "yours is definately firm but riding in mr. p's was a lot/lot/lot/lot/lot firmer"

p, justin did change something in my trans tables and it softened up that 1-2 part throttle shift quite a bit though. although anything over half throttle barks the tires thanks in part to the 4.56's.

Alright. That tells me what I need to do.

* Vette 2nd or Superior billet servo

* Stock 2nd accumulator setup, preferably with "white" spring

* "M" accumulator valve - I'm running the firm spring but I think you would be much happier with the medium spring.

Next time I'm in Denton we'll go for a ride.

I will say that the part throttle mild shift should be what you are looking for. Although I even like the harsh shift all the time, the softer shift when the power output is low is a good thing. For transmission longevity you don't want the pressure to be any higher than needed. Higher pressure leads to breakage as well as heat. As anyone that works with hydralics knows, the higher the fluid pressure is, the more heat is generated.
