fdkss03
I have noticed that my tranny temp is getting up near 200 on a regular basis now.... I removed the lines on the stock transmission cooler and about 6 drops of transmission fluid came out. Is this normal or should fluid run out of the cooler if the truck is turned off? The truck was only off for about 5 minutes before the lines were pulled off the cooler. I checked the fluid a couple weeks ago and it was full..... I purchased an $80 alluminum cooler at the auto parts store, but thinking about returning it and getting the B&M Cooler. The truck is stock.... Rising temps could be one of 2 things, either warmer climate or the trans is generating a lot of heat internally (slippage). I would have the tranny checked by a good transmission guy, I don't remember my tranny ever running over 150 when it was stock. Mr. P. Black2003SS
I just did 800 miles of driving this weekend and my temps never got above 170deg. I have a 2600 converter and stock cooler. I was driving in 85deg heat with blasts up to 110mph occasionally. If your temps are that high, there may be another issue like Mr P said. Hmm... it has been running at 170 - 200 ever since I had the cooler replaced due to a front end accident in my driveway... lol Slid down the hill into my friends tailgate in the snow. I also had the transmission fluid changed around the same time by the dealer. How would I go about purchasing a shift kit from Zippy or Transgo... I am going to have my mechanic install that as he is checking out the transmission for problems.... What would the corvette syncros I have been reading about do for me? brobradh77
You would have to call Zippy and talk to him and he can get you what you need. I am like the others you shouldn't need a trans cooler for a stock truck but I guess since you wrecked it you didn't replace it with a OEM one or bigger? You may have purchased one that is too small for our truck. Do you know the size maybe post it and others can chime in on what they think. CoolBlueSS
Something's definitely not right. Mine runs 150F-180F on 90* days in traffic with A/C on, and that's a little hot, imo. Make sure your fluid level is good. Even a quart can make a sinificant difference.

Not 5 minutes after I left there the temperature gauge started to drop down to the 130-140 area. I saw it get high as 150 last night when I was beatin on the truck pretty hard..... Fluid must have been low. and just think, the dealer is what changed it for me when I bought the truck used.... been running hot ever since they messed with it. fdkss03
so on my way home from work yesterday..... it was 95 out. My tranny was running at an even 200 the whole way. I think it might have been slipping, because when i would punch the gas the truck wouldnt downshift. Would getting a zippy shift kit and a cooler help me? I will get a tune after this....
