not really sure whats wrong

Recommended Posts

Ever since i changed my cam i had a squeaky belt. I changed that out and it was alot better. The only thing is when it starts up i have a squeak on a cold motor. Sometimes it will squeak the whole time driving other times it will stop and i can hear it at about 1500 rpms and higher if my exhaust didnt drown it out. I cant hear it at idle. Sounds more like a pulley is squeaking tho. Any ideas. I thought about getting a gator back belt, or changing out my tensioner??

I noticed a strange belt slipping noise after doing my cam swap also, but it went away after a few days. Never had a long squeel though, just an occasional chirp. Maybe the belt(s) or pulleies got some coolant or oil somewhere and it took that long to dry...?

How many miles do you have on your truck? My alternator had a bearing going bad in my last truck at just 40k miles. Not that that is it, but could be.

How many miles ago was the cam swap? Did you do or someone else?

I did the cam swap, and its just an occasional chirp. I did the swap about 1200 miles ago, considering it took 1000 this weekend driving to palmer and back and traveling around anchorage. I have lil over 28k on the truck now. I did notice that if i sping the alternator pulley it chirps you think that might be the problem?? Its just a chirp like half to full second.

If you can spin your alt pulley without the belt on it and it is making noise, then that is what I would diagnose it as. It is not uncommon for the bearing to go out in them. Maybe not the usual cause for noises, but it is one of them at least.
