malibujeff
I'm about to install a couple of amps. One for the front speakers and one for the sub. I have 4/0 power cable I am going to use to go from the battery to a distribution block. My question is where did you guys run the power cable to get it through the firewall? Did you drill a new hole? I took a quick look today and did not see a good place to route the cable. I did see a rubber seal just under the steering column and the brake booster where the main harness goes through the firewall, but I don't think the 4/0 wire will fit in there with the harness. Whats the right way to do this? Thanks, Jeff
KoreySS
You could always find a good spot to drill a new hole, put in a grommet (the home depot is a good place for these), a little RTV silicone, and you should be good to go! -K-
fast4popper
If its trully 4/0 then I would run it down the frame rail to the back and come in under teh rear seat. that stuff will never hide under carpet. but if you must run it in the truck. there are a few places to drill thru, you will see a circle cut out in the firewall deadening to the left of the steering column, this works well... or to the right of the brake booster. these are as if you are standing looking into the engine bay
malibujeff
The power cable I'm using is 4 gauge wire.
fast4popper
The power cable I'm using is 4 gauge wire. then, drill a hole in the fire wall to the right of the brake booster and call it done, there is a nice channel to run it in along the drivers side sill plate in the truck. works out great!!! perk03z06
I have 6 gauge going through the grommet of the main wire harness behind the brake booster. You shouldn't have any problems running 4 gauge through the same hole. I had someone poke mine through the firewall, though ... I didn't want to get aggrivated messing with it. SilverSnake03
I am trying to run a 8 gauge wire through the main harness grommet... When it is really tight in there though.... When I tried to poke a stiff wire through to see if there is any room and a little spark came out.... Why is that?? I was not being aggressive....do you think I hurt anything? Sounds like you might have scraped the insulation off of a wire in there.
usabodyguard
8 gauge wire?? what are you running, a radar detector? yes, spark means contact between positive and ground... not good. if you are not properly fused you could burn up your entire truck, and i am not kidding... had that happen to me on a 4 day old brand new SUV back in the early 90's with an after market alarm... insurance had to replace the entire truck... the stereo shop insurance that is...lol. SilverSnake03
Yea a radar detector..... Anyway... The spark came from the main harness not the power wire so it is properly fused... I gunna have it looked at today...
