Well, think im gonna go ahead and bite the bullet and get a turbo instead of chiping away at bolt ons. The kit im looking at is a used STS turbo kit off of a single cab silverado. So i'd be looking at a tune and an extension for the intercooler tubing. But other than that the kit looks complete for my truck. So any opinions on the STS systems or someone please come school me if im got the wrong idea about this kit. thanks

they do need some work , some of the first things id do is add a bov. and change the oil return line to drain oil back in a different location.

i dunno if this is a dumb question but what is a bov. Where exaclty does the trubo draw its oil from the engine in this kit. I read that it returns to a spot in the vale cover, whys this undesriable? thanks for your help man

bov=blow of valve , it releives unwanted pressure under certain decels and throttle actuations. its so you dont back feed into your turbo creating surging which is really hard on the turbo. it returns the oil into the oil fill cap which looks cheap imo. i fogot exactly where it draws oil from though.

I believe chase04 that there is some sort of fitting that goes between the oil filter and block that cycles the oil to the turbo after the oil has been filtered...I think...I'm not 100% sure of that though...it taps in there somewhere near there though.

the oil is feed from the oil block of plate... I believe that the new kits come with an adaptor plate, the old kits you had to drill and tap a hole. I had to do that to mine. As chase said, I would tap the passanger side valve cover for the oild return line, that is what I did. it makes it look better and you dont have to worry about putting undo stress on the oil fill neck... wich is cheap and can easly cause an oil leak around the seal. Make sure that you upgrade the injectors and fuel pump and transmission. A BOV is optional but I would definatly do it... it prevents turbo surge and will extend the life of the turbo. We can help you out more if you tell us what your goals are, how complete the kit is, what parts you have, and what you plan on doing with it. For the most part to make an STS kit work right you have to do alot of supporting mods as well.

And an electric boost controllers also it is awsome and I highly recomend it. Its a blast to run against someone in low boost and have them keep up, then you hit the high boost switch and totaly kill them. a yeah :driving:

From what i can tell the kit is complete. It has everthing the kit has on STS's website except for the oil supply adapter. The kit im looking at i believe is from 04 so it might have a different method for recieving its oil or it just might not be in the picture. The kit comes with 48# injectors. And as far as right now i would love to keep it simple and run low boost so i could keep the supporting mods to a minimum. Im thinkin 5 p.s.i. for maybe a 75 or 80hp boost. Would i have to get into the transmission if i ran just 5 p.s.i.? I plann on buying the used kit, i'll probley have some exhaust work done, a tune, a boost gauge, and maybe an air to fuel mixture gauge anything else?

At this point I would not do any exhaust work just yet, keep it simple. but I would do some preventive work on the trans It will be cheaper to put in a shift kit and servos now as opposed to rebuilding it later on. the thing is that once you go boost, you will want more. With injectors and tunning you will be ok. Don,t forget the fuel pump.

Yea that sounds likea good plan for the trans what exactly do the servos do i've heard of them but don't know anything. Would a different torque converter help beef anything up or is that the least of my transmission worries? And the exhaust work i just meant like to hook the turbo up, like two welds and maybe some pipe. What would you pay for this used kit?

The sts turbo kit i seen on a truck needed some more tuning but didnt run as hard as i thought it did. I think for the money id prolly get a SC I been looking at what chase is running but i havnt really decided what i wanna do with my truck if i wanna go big hp or keep sensible so i can still take trips in it.
