wheel back spacing?

Recommended Posts

backspace is the distance from the mounting surface to the inside lip of the wheel. this measurement is closely related to offset (without actually measuring, backspacing is about equal to [wheel width / 2] + [offset] + [about 1/4] )

the easiest way to measure backspace is to lay the wheel face down on the ground so the backside of the wheel is facing up. take a straight edge and lay it diagonally across the inboard flange of the wheel. take a tape measure and measure the distance from where the straight edge contacts the inboard flange to the hub mounting pad of the wheel. this measurement is backspace. the above photo shows three wheels with 2",3", & 4" backspace.

As far as a 7" backspace, that seems like it wouldn't fit in the wheel well. To get an idea of how far you can go, measure from the mounting surfacre of the axle to the inside of the wheel well.
