Bottled Water/Tap Water

Well, I have been trying to turn to a healthier lifestyle and that includes NOT drinking water from the tap. Not only does it taste discusting, it is also bad for you. It contains numerous trace metals and the worse one being copper. I recently set up a Salt Water fish tank and in order to keep a healthy tank you have to use Reverse Osmosis water. This worked out perfect, I purchase an R.O unit for the tank and not only is it good for the tank it also produces healthy/great tasting water. I also purchased a TDS meter (total disolved solids), this meter measures the purity of water which is required to make sure the R.O unit is working properly. The TDS meter measures in PPM (parts per million). The TDS of regular tap water is usually around 250-350ppm which is extremely high and unhealthy. The TDS of a Brita Water Filter is around 50-70ppm. The TDS of a residential Reverse Osmosis system should be around 1-10ppm (very healthy). My R.O system is reading 7.9ppm.

Ok, enough chemistry. I will get to the point. I thought it would be interesting to test bottled water that you can buy in the stores. I tested Dasani, Aquafina, Smart Water, and Fiji Water. I was really surpised by the results.

Dasani- 27.7ppm

Smart Water- 12.3ppm

Fiji- 10.1ppm

Aquafina- 2.1ppm

By NO means are these levels of TDS bad for you but I couldn't beleive it, the cheapest bottle of water has the best water quality.

So next time you see someone reach for that $3.00 bottle of water you can quietly laugh to yourself knowing that they are buying nothing but the brand name.

You guys are probly thinking I am the biggest nerd for posting this, but I thought it was pretty interesting.

i am alittle surprised here. my friend hypes Fijiwater and for the last year that's all he has had. i have a brita at home and use that when i'm here. i tend to buy Aquafina alot or Poland Spring (Maine) bottled water when I'm at work. I usually have a cooler in my work truck with at least 6-8 bottles on ice.

i used to work for coke, they distribute dasani and i always called it cali tap water, that shit taste horrible imo. ive alway drinken fiji , imo it taste great but aquafina isnt far behind. it would be interesting to do the same test in a week with a difffernet source of each water and see if you get the same results.

i agree with testing, then testing a week later, and maybe a couple of weeks later to test for any bacteria

i have had dasani enough to prefer anything from a brita over it. if i'm not mistaken, i think dasani is filtered (ala brita) and aquafina is distilled. i could be wrong though. i will say that fiji is good water.

what's even sadder is that the world is 70%+ (i forget the percentage) water and our bodies are moreso and we have to pay for it.

I will do that. I also want to test Evian, Ice mountain, and some other "cheaper" bottled waters.

You mean, buy the same brands of water at a different location and test them again?

i misread it the first time. alittle distracted. if i got Chase right this time, most bottling companies have multiple sources, so yes, constant testing would be a great help

Interesting, I have never heard of Penta.

However, It is possible to get 0 ppm with a Reverse Osmosis/Deionizer system which I will be getting shortly, all I need to do is hook up the DI unit to the R.O unit. The water first passes through the R.O, then the D.I gives the water a final polish.

That sounds nice. The well water around here is probably the nastiest water on the continent. It's easily 5 times worse than average tap water.

Penta water seems to justify it's price, I read it has an 11 hour 13 step filtration process, which is 9 steps of filtration 3 steps of bacteria removal.

Holy shit, after reading more I found out they patented their water processing (13th step of purification) and a new composition of matter. Do you seriously drink only this water? No wonder your such a BAMF!!!

Is Penta really patented?

Yes. On Feb. 18, 2003 the U.S. Patent and Trademark office granted a patent to Penta Water Company, Inc., makers of Penta bottled water. The patent (no. 6,521,248) not only covers one of the processes the water undergoes, but also a new composition of matter

I have to pick up a bottle of this stuff tomorrow.
