K&N or Volant CAI

I have had a K&N CAI on for just under a year, and have been very satisfied. I added it about the same time as my tune, so I cannot say specifically how much it helped performance wise. Many on this site like Outlaw CAI as well. I'm sure you will hear from them too.

Volant: because its better than K&N

but if you want bling and function, I recommend the GMPP CAI

I am in the market for a CAI as well. What makes Volant better than K & N?? Thanks

With the Volant, U don't get the hot air from under the hood. Especially wiht the ram air scoop for the Volant. The K&N is open to the heat under the hood.

I would have to say K&N. Yes the K&N is an open element (I like the way it looks) and doesn't have as much as some of the others to block underhood heat like the Volant, but it is not totally open to underhood heat, as the isolation plate does a pretty good job of keeping heat out. Not to mention, the open element benefits from the airflow coming in over the headlight, kind of a ram air effect (and yes I know that Volant has an optional ram air scoop). A lot more air comes in over that headlight than you think.

I am very satisfied with the K&N 57-Series FIPK. There was a noticable gain in throttle response over stock.

Good luck with your choice.

Your K&N setup looks great! Was wondering if you run it all year round?? I have the four seasons over here (Wash St). No problems with rain or snow? If ya dont mind me askin...what did you pay for the set up?? Cheapest I have seen is $212.00 includes shipping. Thanks

I would have to say volant. I had the old version Volant and sold it for the AEM Brute force CAI which was pretty bad ass. Def had SOTP feel to and sounded mean as hell but I dropped a good 2mpg with it for some reason. Its the same type of set-up as K&N so I dont see to much of a difference really. I sold that and went with the new Volant box and been very happy with it. Still feel slight notice in throttle response and I AVG 14mpg now around town with my foot in it on stock tune. With my other PCM which is tuned I got better gas mileage. I cant say for sure between the two since I didnt have a K&N but I had a set-up very similar.

i'm happy with my Volant. when I got it, the discussion was more centered around Outlaw and Volant. More guys on here seemed to have the Volant and were happy with it. I liked the fact that it has the enclosed box (looks nice too) and the down tube that attaches to your right side brake vent. When I installed it, I leaped up to 14.9 mpg combined city/hwy. The thing sounds nice when you get on it too as well as there being alittle power gain.

Some guys say that the K&N is loud, yes there is some induction noise, but I like the way that sounds. Anyway, I run the K&N FIPK year round, and have had 0 problems with rain or snow (we have the 4 seasons here in NY too). I would assume that you would have to be careful with the Volant Ram Air tube in deep standing water and heavy rain. I paid $215.00 for my K&N a year ago through Jegs. :chevy:

If you research the K&N FIPK's, you will find the 57 and 77 series. The 57-series (like mine) has a plastic tube, the 77-series has the polished stainless(or aluminum?) tube. Go for the 57-Series. Good luck with your choice.
