gabbett1
I was wondering if there were companies out there that make Carbon Fiber body parts for vehicles that didn't come with them? If anyone has any information on this I would appreciate it if you would let me know.
brobradh77
I guess it just depends on what your after. I have found a place that makes cabon fiber engine covers but for my truck I would have to send them a set and they will carbon fiber everything i want done forme. Find out what it is you want and google it thats what I did or hopefully someone will know of some places once you post what parts your looking for. BumpinSS
If your looking for carbon bodyparts for an SS your probably out of luck unless you locate a shop willing to make the parts, and most of the time they will join forums and see if there is interest. Pretty much the same way replica bodykits start getting made. Unless you do 1 offs and they rip you a new one. Only company I know that has been making alot of carbon parts lately is Seibon but their quality is junk. I haven't heard of anyone making carbon truck parts, but I can ask around for you. I have to make a run to a couple shops this week to discuss modifying my SS's frame so I can ask around when I go.
gabbett1
Thanks I would appreciate that. I was sort of looking just in general, but my truck was the main thing I was wondering about. Would be nice to drop some major weight off the thing, but then again what I had in mind is kinda a pipe dream.
brobradh77
I have heard of Carbon Fiber hoods for our trucks but they are expensive. I believe Mr. P was intersted in one at one time I just can't remember who was going to make it.
misterp
Hood = VIS Racing. About $800-900 bones & 6-weeks manufacturing delay. Mr. P.

gabbett1
$900 for CF hood...thats not too shabby. Yeah, but how much weight does that actually drop just doing the hood? Looks like the hood is meant for off road use only. Plus I don't want hood pins. Edited July 16, 2007 by gabbett1 (see edit history)
zippy
There is a company out there that makes them in Cali. I'll see if I can get their info.
04CHASE
if the price wasnt to bad id be interested in this too. if someone could make a carbon fiber bed that would be kick ass. but i bet it would cost big bucks.
BumpinSS
Carbon fiber bed would be nice, lol. There is a local guy with a build 383 in his S10 and he has a custom bed built out of a rubberoid with fenderwells wide enough for him to run 18inch wide wheels. Looking at his truck you cant even tell, the outside it painted and the bed itself just looks like a bedliner with NOS bottles bolted down. misterp
Yeah, but how much weight does that actually drop just doing the hood? Looks like the hood is meant for off road use only. Plus I don't want hood pins. The VIS hood is pretty heavy duty for a CF hood; it's 1/2 the weight of a stock hood but still uses stock hood springs, latch, and they will add a couple more layers of CF to the front corners to reinforce them from lifting at speed. According to VIS product support with reinforced corners the hood should be fine up to about 140-mph but above that their libility insurance company wants customers to install hood pins in the front corners to positively guarantee the hood corners won't lift. I was going to purchase this hood because I love the scoop, but since that deal fell through I've now got other ideas for my hood... Good product though, if you are looking into a custom hood I would *highly* recommend it. Mr. P.
BumpinSS
If you get a hood that needs hood pins, Top Secrets locking pins are great. expensive ($182 for 2) but made really well and look good. alot better than just the pin and ring sticking out. http://www.topsecretjpn.com/ac.shtml Edited July 17, 2007 by BumpinSS (see edit history)
