Need a shop recommendation

Recommended Posts

I have shops near me that can build good motors, but nobody experienced in building trannies. Can anyone recommend a shop that can build me a tranny capable of holding 800-1000hp for my AWD near Missouri? I was also wondering if I can run a TH400 in the silverado? (I don't know alot about transmissions) With my upcoming project I need a stout tranny and I don't wanna lose my AWD.

yeah only bad part about the 80 e is it will rob horsepower and the gears kind of suck . but other than that it can be made almost bullet proof. to keep the awd wont be cheap . your looking near 5-6 k for the swap , youll need new driveshafts and a new trans crossmember.

Hmm... (again I'm an idiot in the tranny department) can you elaborate on the sucky gears? ...and do you know if the stock SS tranny can be built to handle 900tq? I have a budget of around 7 grand that I can set aside for my tranny, pending on prices when I shop around for a new shop to do my motor work..found out a few hours ago the shop owner that did the work on my old vette and my fathers vehicles had a heart attack monday. :| Hopefully there is someone near FTL that does good work, I'd like to see my work get done in the same area so I can keep tabs on things.

I think you will find any reputable tranny shop will not put their claim to this. A 65E handling those numbers is possible and has been done however longevity is out of the question. Add the weight of the SSS and the AWD,... :ughdance:

As of today retaining AWD is not 100% necessary. I decided to buy a 2005 Legacy GT so I can have a new winter vehicle (awesome deal, 11k miles and I got her for $14,700 from a client)....so with that being said would I be better off going RWD and running fatties in the back or trying to keep the AWD?
