Turbo question...Yes I searched. :D

Recommended Posts

Ok, I did some searching the site this morning and afternoon while still trying to decide the key aspect of my motor build and I came across two things that I was wondering if anyone could answer some questions about?

1. In the Kit vs Kit end all thread there is the Detroit speedworks, PTK, CM, LM -- Front mount turbo kits I was wondering if anyone on the site is running them? I searched and didn't see any threads about them.

2. In searching for the info to answer the above question I came across 2 forum members that were fabricating a Twin Turbo setup and were planning to market it...did that kit ever get released to the public? Searching his post history all I saw was the build up, an 'I took the truck to the track' post, then a post about him selling the truck.

-Thanks.

The TT kits you saw never went to market, I think they did not make the power that the owners were hoping for although they did run stong, just not as strong as say the currently available TT kits for Vettes & Fbodys (like the TTiX or APS stuff).

The only front-mount Silverado/Sierrra kit I know of off-hand is the one being sold by Alan Nelson (Nelson Performance), a large single front-mount turbo.

A couple guys have been pretty happy with a twin STS setup, albeit IMO you need to fab some better intercooling & make sure the oil return system is totally bullet-proof.

I considered a front-mount TT setup myself and if I did so I would call the TTiX or APS guys and start with their ready-made kits and see if it will fit underhood in a truck (you would think so?) I would go with one of the Vette kits and start from there, not the under-body kits (like the APS). You would have to fab-up all the cold-side plumbing, but their headers & hot-side stuff should fit like a treat I would think. :dunno: Also from a performance viewpoint there is no difference between a properly sized/tuned TT setup vs. single turbo setup.

Thanks for the info, just looked at that Nelson Performance kit...that looks pretty nice. ...and I agree there is no real diffirence between the two only that the single has to potential to run out of breathe first and that is what turbo upgrades are for. I'll have to check performancetrucks.net and see if anyone is running it so I can see a dyno. I'd like to see the powerband so I can decide between the ST and the Kenne Bell 2.8. The reason I'm leaning more toward the turbo is the fact that making a streetable truck with this kind of power...power kicking in a little late isn't always a bad thing.

That's what made me decide against a monster turbo; however if you bought an electronic boost controller that you could program the wastegate/boost curve in first & 2nd gears that would be THE setup right thurrrrr... like launch with "only" 8psi then let it ramp up from there
