crf250rider
I was just wondering what torque management is and what it is supposed to do? I ahve a diablo programmer and i took it off and it shifts harder... does it cause engine damage?
Fireman31
As I came to know it, Torque Management is designed to prolong the life of your trans by managing input torque from the engine to the trans.........someone correct me if I am wrong please. Removing all of the TM will make the trans shift like it has a shift kit. When I got my PCM tuned, I only had 50% of the TM removed.......having 100% removed should not hurt the engine, but it could hurt your trans.......... jc04ss
When I had my tune done they got rid of Torque Mgt. They were explaining, like Fireman31 was saying, that it manages the torque of the motor to the trans by reducing timing between shifts ( I think he told me it does this in milliseconds during the shifts). That what makes the stock shifting so "cadillac" (is what I like to call it). Lame shifting. But as I said in my tune they got rid of torque mgt, boosted the line pressure a little bit, as well as the force motor pressure a little bit, nothing major. It shifts awesome now. Feels just like a shift kit, but you do not get the "cruising thru a parking lot slam shift into second", if you are driving normal, no hard accelaration, it has positive shifts nothing that anyone would notice. Half throttle or more "Its SHOWTIME"

BlackSS04
This is why the need for a servo comes into play along with a shift kit, correct? if you put in a shift kit, than you can remove all TM without doing any harm to your tranny. misterp
if you put in a shift kit, than you can remove all TM without doing any harm to your tranny. Don't remove TQ Mgmt without installing a shift kit and 2nd servo - else you'll eventually burn up clutches. The only reason to eliminate TQ Mgmt is to get better vehicle performance. TQ Mgmt is specifically pulling timing from the engine during shifting and launching, adaptive shifting is the mechanism which monitors shift timing; these are two completely different topics with two completely different sets of tuning settings - you can zero-out adaptive shift timing and still leave in a small percentage of Tq Mgmt, some guys choose to do this. Badkarma
So with a bone stock trans, how much TQ mgmt can be safely removed when having a tune done?
