desertss
i am picking up a horse saturday, i just made a deal on one. i am getting a quarter/throughbred gelding that is around 1300lbs and is 17 1/2 hands tall. a great looking bay with 2 white back stocking feet. has been trained and is very fast. was used for some barrel racing and poles. has done a little roping. i will post some pics this weeekend after i get him home. i am looking at a couple of wild mustangs at the adoption center also. a big blue roan and a big bay stallion. wild horses adopt here for $125 each. you can get up to 4 per yr. Hankg42
How old is the horse you're getting? My sister and I both rode a lot when we were younger. She finally got her own horse. I think it's over 30 years old now! They have quite a life span. I was never able to get my own horse, though.
chevygal
I own a Rocky Mountain Horse. This is my second horse. I used to have a Qtr Horse/Morgan buckskin. My boy is 10 and stands 15.1 hh. I mostly trail ride with him. He's gaited so I get a nice smooth fast running walk rather than the usual trot (though he can trot also). http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y20/rocky.../Doodledec6.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y20/rocky...e/Doodandme.jpg
misterp
Yeah I know a bit about equines; my father invented the team roping classification system and I wrote all the code for it, together we invented the USTRC (that was 20 years ago) which today is the world sanctioning body for the sport, we have team ropers on 4 continents now. It's why I'm still stuck in Stephenville actually. What specifically is it you are wanting to do with horses? Depending on what it is that you are interested in the wild ponies may not be the best idea. And remember that caring for horses gets real expensive real fast. Right now is such a good time for getting involved with horses, for the last 100-years or so there has been a real dark ages in education and resources but now there's several really good seminars etc. Mr. P.
