Rausche
So, I was browsing the corvette forums and came across a couple different posts about the 6L80E... Apparently, it will hold 520 ft/lbs, is small than the 4L80E, and is a fully modular unit (easily installed behind an LSx)... It's also got the ability to be paddle shifted... So I'm thinking... Eventually, when GM makes tons of them and they get out cheap, hello paddle-shifted SSS with 800hp blown LSX block! edit: forum linky : http://www.pro-touring.com/forum/printthre...=7147&pp=40 #2: http://www.digitalcorvettes.com/forums/sho...?threadid=36243 #3: http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/lofiversio...php?t40939.html Pictures! : http://www.autodeadline.com/Photos?kw=6l80&page=2 Edited August 24, 2007 by Rausche (see edit history)

Why even bother, you could have that with a regular 408. If you're doing an LSX and dreaming, why not dream BIG?

If you're doing an LSX and dreaming, why not dream BIG? Because the bigger I dream, the worse chance I have to hook the launch!! Ideally I'd be up around the 1000-1200 HP range, which should still be streetable on the LSX block, especially if I can paddle shift it right into sixth @ 30mph when I'm looking for economy, lol... CoolBlueSS
I think the 6L80E has It's own control module (TCM) that is seperate from the PCM. It's been talked about before, but if it would/could come together. Only down side is the first gear with 4.10s would be a killer. Figures out to like 16.4:1 in first. Black2003SS
All of those threads are over 2 years old. As of yet, no one has been able to figure out how to make the trans work with our pcm. The language logic used in the 6L80E is different than the nbs pcm language logic and not compatible with the language logic our pcm uses. The only way to operate the 6L80E in an older vehicle is with a stand alone controller and make adjustments in the pcm. I dont believe HPTuners or LS1Edit are even compatible yet. There is a company out there that is working on this set up and they only got a 6L80E in their hands this summer. I was going to attempt this as well, but simply do not have the funds to risk at this point. I'm taking a wait and see approach on this one like everyone else right now. SSThunder
For now the best options seems to be a built 4L65e Maybe when I'm ready to add the built trans another option like this will actually be available.

jasonm
yea those come on the new sierra denali, paddle shifting is optional. i wish i had the money to get one of those babies Have you driven the paddle shifted vehicles? I drove a Pontiac Gran Prix GXP (5.3 auto w/paddle and HUD). At first when I heard about it, I had to have it. Once I drove it, I bought the Impala SS -- no paddle shift. It was relatively retarded. I'd much rather have a 6 speed manual, but since it wasn't available, I'd rather just have the plain automatic. Now don't get me wrong.... If the Impala or GXP is offered in a 6 spd, it'll be in my garage.
Rausche
Can anyone get me the PN(s?) for the 6L80E? I might have to go ahead and be the guinea pig for this, right? I'll need a full custom tune on the PCM and the TCM (a stand-alone one for the transmission, right?), and other than this thing will bolt right up, right? Rausche
TTT, still looking for the part numbers...
Black2003SS
Rausche, The 6L80E and its converter will bolt up to the back of an LQ9. The cross member support will have to be modified and the driveshaft will require shortening. I'm not 100% positive, but I believe you can use the awd tranfer case from the 07+ denali and also refab the driveshaft going to the front diff as well. Its going to be alot of work. As far as part numbers...contact schramm automotive in waterford, mi...they might have some used ones lying around. Now don't get me wrong.... If the Impala or GXP is offered in a 6 spd, it'll be in my garage. GXP is done as of this model year. The grand prix will replaced by the G8 with RWD, 360hp LSx series V8 and your choice of six speed manual or six speed auto...and yes...it is a 4 door...about 3 years late to the RWD sedan ballroom blitz.
