finishing the basement.. all concrete walls.

metal or wood furring strips..

or metal or wood studs?

 

Depends on a lot of factors. If you're going to insulate the outside walls then you almost have to go with studs just for the depth. Are you going to drywall or panel? Did mine about 8-10 years ago. Insulated all outside walls w/fiberglass and wood panelled everything. Easy to do and relatively cheap. I used wood just because I'm familiar with it. Never tried the metal studs. Just make sure everything is sealed and dry before you begin or you'll have problems down the line with moisture/mold/rot.

Furring strips should be fine for outside walls with no insulation. Only problem i could see is that furring strips don't give you much to screw your drywall to. And if you use too long of screws you risk putting holes in the concrete which kind of defeats the purpose of sealing it.Just a thought.
