BOB47
finishing the basement.. all concrete walls.metal or wood furring strips.. or metal or wood studs? Depends on a lot of factors. If you're going to insulate the outside walls then you almost have to go with studs just for the depth. Are you going to drywall or panel? Did mine about 8-10 years ago. Insulated all outside walls w/fiberglass and wood panelled everything. Easy to do and relatively cheap. I used wood just because I'm familiar with it. Never tried the metal studs. Just make sure everything is sealed and dry before you begin or you'll have problems down the line with moisture/mold/rot.
Bonj87
im applying concrete sealant tomorrow night. im going to drywall but not insulate.. no need for that in my basement i was thinking furring strips would be the way to go, plus they are less expensive. BOB47
Furring strips should be fine for outside walls with no insulation. Only problem i could see is that furring strips don't give you much to screw your drywall to. And if you use too long of screws you risk putting holes in the concrete which kind of defeats the purpose of sealing it.Just a thought. BOB47
Lots and lots of sanding. LOL Good luck.
Bonj87
i kinda expected it anyway.. my walls are 9 ft.. so i will put my drywall on end, standing 8 feet tall. less to cut and less to sand. if i mudd it properly, i shouldnt have to sand a ton i almost considered putting paneling over that

Fireman31
you could go either way 1x2's or tin studs, it really doesn't matter since your not insulating, and the cost is relative Edited November 2, 2007 by Fireman31 (see edit history)
