usabodyguard
With the New Year upon us I thought you all might find the following CA Motorist Legislative changes interesting. As of July 1st CA drivers are prohibited from using handheld cellular telephones while driving (blue tooth and other hands free devices are fine). School Zones will now be able to have 15 mph restrictions through school zones. (Effective January 1, 2008) It is now illegal to sell or buy a product that obstructs the recognition of a license plate by an electronic device operated by police or toll authority. (Effective January 1, 2008) Owners with cars six years old or newer are now required to pay an additional $11 a year when they register their cars to fund research for alternative fuels, alternative fuel-infrastructure projects, air-quality improvement and the removal of high-polluting vehicles from the road. This measure will require car owners to contribute over $150 million per year until 2016. (Effective January 1, 2008) Smoking in vehicles with a minor present is now prohibited (whether the car is in motion or not). (Effective January 1, 2008) Gas stations are now required to record and report the temperature in which their fuel is dispensed to the consumer. Fuel expands when it is delivered at temperatures higher than 60 degrees. At higher temperatures, the same volume of fuel delivers less energy therefore consumers may not be getting the amount and quality of fuel they are paying for. (Effective January 1, 2008) Edited January 2, 2008 by usabodyguard (see edit history)

brobradh77
Interesting..but i do agree with the smoking law...IMO its sad to see parents smoking like a freight train with their kids in the car and besides that most of the time i see them doing it with the windows rolled all the way up. (Effective January 1, 2008) This is useless...air also expands in the summer and gas mileage actually goes up in the summer because less air is taken in, making less power, spending less fuel. Leave it to someone to try to point out how they are getting ripped off. Gas mileage gets so much worse in the winter with the "condensed" fuel. CenWaSS
Here in WA, starting Jan 08 no more texting either while driving, which I agree with . Starting in July 08 only hands free devices are to be used, which I agree with to some extent. Just curious when they will stop? Soon we will banned from tuning the radio, adjusting the A/C, etc, etc while driving? Its gonna be 10 and 2, no exceptions, or get a ticket. kissfans03ss
Ct. had the cell phone ban for a few years but the problem is when the rich yuppie wives got pulled over for yapping on the phones they all played stupid and acted like no one ever told them the law was enacted even though the news covered it to death, now its barely even enforced. The fines were $100 each offense or get a hands free device which only a few people bothered with.
