Joel Blair
I was planning on cleaning the MAF in my truck and so I got a can of cleaner and was going to do it this weekend. I found a post on here that said it was important to unplug the negative terminal on the ECU to reset it, or the results from cleaning the MAF would not be as substantial due to that the ECU would have to adjust over time rather than starting with new readings from the MAF. I was wondering if this step is necessary and if there was anything else I needed to know about before I did this? Any help is appreciated, Thanks
yttaf
if you worried about that just unhook the negetive battery cable take out your maf, clean it, put it back in & re hook your ground cable.
kelleyperformance
if the fuel trims are off enough for a cleaning to be necesarry, then resetting the PCMs memory isnt necesarry. as soon as you reinstall the clean MAF and start the truck up, the readings SHOULD be instantly different
SS_bnoon_SS
Agreed, you shouldn't need a reset unless you want to. The new air readings will be immediate and the resulting changes will take just as long to recalculate from what errored readings you have now, vs. a reset and learning from base settings. Just to be sure... you're using a non-residue electrical type of cleaner, right?
BlackySS13
I don't have a maf anymore. Haha.
Joel Blair
Just to be sure... you're using a non-residue electrical type of cleaner, right? Yes I used a cleaner that I found that said it was specifically for MAFs. It said it left no residue and evaporated quicky.
