ccgoodwrench
This is a question about a chevy step van 1988, I tried to search the internet with no luck, I'm trying to find out what ratio the rear axle is in my 1988 step van p-30, I found a stamp on the right axle tube HSR G2221, I think it might be 4:56, when i bought the van i was told the rear was replaced a few years ago, and i know the speedo is off by like 8 miles faster then what it actually is. I want to replaced it with the correct ratio so gas milage will improve 3:73, can some please help out.
desrtrat
on older ones, there use to be a data tag on one of the diff. bolts. larger trucks had a tag mounted on the case with rivets. you can jack it up, and rotate the tires and count drive shaft rotations but it will only be close. last pull the cover, and count ring gear teeth, and pinion teeth, and do the math.. good luck
