foxySS
What's the best way get this thing off? I tried removing the fan shroud on my s-10 and using an impact wrench while holding the (duct taped) pulley with a pipe wrench but it doesn't appear to be budging. Is the nut reverse thread? Anybody have any tips?
gixxerrider
It needs the impac gun to be removed. I believe it is left to loosen
foxySS
That's what I was using but I can't fit a 1/2" gun in there so I tried a 3/8". What's the best way to stop the pulley from starting to spin while using the gun? As hard as I grip it with the pipe wrench it still starts to move. desrtrat
they should not be that hard to take off, unless someone put loctite on the threads. try removing the alt. and putting the pulley in a vice and and try that. use a 6' extension on the impact to reach the nut. a little WD40 PB plaster will help. they are standard left hand threads... good luck Edited May 3, 2008 by desrtrat (see edit history)
foxySS
Okay, I'll try that. It is an aftermarket alternator so there's a good chance it's got loctite on it.

foxySS
did you ever get the pulley off.. Yeah, thanks. I brought it over to a friends house and his impact gun had no problem. I think it's time to upgrade to higher torque.
