SoCalSS Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 Heys guys, Heres the story...Trucks parking break is stuck to the floor...went to pull the parking break release....drive wire broke....Wire pulled out and was about 2 ft long... Now is there a way to manually release the parking break without the wire... Please let me know asap by PM...or you can post an answer here....any help is appreciated... Thanks Owen Quote
SoCalSS Posted May 18, 2008 Author Report Posted May 18, 2008 Well I figured it out, and if anyone has had their parking brake take a crap on you...then you know how i felt and this should be something you should read if it hasnt.... Fortunately i was 2 miles away from where i live, and i did drive the truck home, and now the entire truck smells like roasted rear brake pads....Oh well....Hopefully that wont cause any problems, and if it will please comment and let me know I do have pictures to share with those who may have this happen to them.... I have never been more mad at not having a flashlight and a pair of needle nose pliers ever in my life, so if you dont have a those items, i suggest carrying them along with a ratchet set, flat and philips head screw drivers, and a wrench... So here are the pictures of where the MANUAL BRAKE RELEASE IS First picture is far away...basically it is a shot of the parking brake engaged and the parking brake mechanism...I have circled the manual release....please note this isnt visible without the parking brake engaged... Here is a closer look Here is as close as i can get with my camera... Be careful when pulling with the needle nose pliers, because the parking brake is released real quick...Check to make sure the brake is completely release by turning the truck on, and see if the brake light shows...if not youre free to drive... I dont know if the MODS can put this in another forum for small repairs, but stuff like this would help alot of people Quote
04CHASE Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 you could have relesed it by going under the truck near the bed , on the outside of the fram rail i beleive driver side, there you will find the cable and you will see where it is one cable and then has a bracket and splits into two , you can pull one side of the bracket enough to pull the top or bottom cable off and then pull the other off, either zip tie them up or wrap on a hose or wire loom and it could have got you home but you learned your lesson, always carry tools. i know i have an entire 200 piece craftsman set along with vice gripps needle nose, and a big ass 6 cell mag light which can be used more than a flash light Quote
r8rs4lf Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 I had this happen to me and it wasn't a big deal. All that was needed was to trace where the parking brake wire met up with the bracket underneath the dash to release it. After a few times I was a pro and didn't need to even look under there anymore. I finally took it in to get it fixed about a month ago. Quote
