JSTAL Posted August 23, 2008 Report Posted August 23, 2008 (edited) ok guys i need help and advice. I took the truck to the track ,very disappointed with everything. Set up goes as follows drag slicks @ 12.5 psi 6.0 LQ4 witha maggie mp-112 3.2 pulley, cam 218- 224 / 563 -579 115lsa , no cats, 3" magnaflow racing exhuast true duals, detroit true trac ,3.42 gears, fully built 4L65e , Yank Sc 3000 the tune is not right and the tranny tune is stock the convert was locking after it shifted to 3rd @ WOT the truck ran 14.30s @ 94 2.0 60' i ran higher trap speed on street tires with the diablosport on the N/A LQ4 only gained 1 second with tune cam and blower ans slicks. like i said the tune, engine and tranny was way off. i made a big mistake and put 110 octane leaded fuel in it. its shifting @ 5800 1-2 and 2-3 and the converter locks as soon as it shifts to 3rd. I know i made some mistakes but im new to the drag scene my truck is not performing at all. it seriously is no faster than the n/a 6.0. i need a good tuner im not happy with mine i know danny will not like to hear that btw he is not the tuner just the builder. i want a speed density tune my truck should be low 13s so wtf why am i showing no gains i have a video that im embarrased to show you can here it ping in second and fall on its face in 3rd. Please help guys as you have ive dropped alot of money in this drive trane i want to see the gains. i was unable to log anything. i still have the 2.85 pulley but im waiting on meth to add that on. i feel like driving the truck off a cliff here is the video beat me up but help me out thanks jason http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uukj1nsU9MY im in the far lane Edited August 23, 2008 by MIDNIGHTRIDR (see edit history) Quote
Fireman31 Posted August 24, 2008 Report Posted August 24, 2008 Jason, time to log some runs to find out what is really going on. Steal Brad's laptop since he has EFI live. This weather isn't exactly the best racing weather anyway. I was at the track last night and could only muster a 14.7 out of a truck that is capable of high 13s. Track prep was awful and I was spinning them out of the hole all the way through first gear everytime. Wait for fall, log some runs, and see what happens. Quote
brobradh77 Posted August 24, 2008 Report Posted August 24, 2008 yeah that and dont use leaded fuel in an unleaded truck will help alot.....As I told ya on the phone i know ho wya feel..its frustrating as hell to blow doe on your motor and it not show the gains it should....you'll get it figured out aamn i know. SSThunder Posted August 24, 2008 Report Posted August 24, 2008 yep you need to get that tune updated and worked on. The tune is everything when you have as many mods as you do. If it's pulling timing because of knock then the blower is useless. are you running those 22's at the track? Weight is a big difference also. I've tested 22's, stock 20's and there was a difference. I know run 17' steel wheels at the track and the truck loves it. Less weight to tunr over and closer to the axles. That truck should be a 13 second truck easy. I know of a KY guy with the LQ4 in an ECSB running 11's. Dang that thing is fast. hope you get it fixed soon Quote

zeake Posted August 24, 2008 Report Posted August 24, 2008 I had very similar problems till I got rid of the whipple and put a trick turbo on. Quote
Krambo Posted August 24, 2008 Report Posted August 24, 2008 Its in the TUNE. If you are hearing ping, you are pulling timing like crazy (as long as your tuner didn't mess with the knock sensor settings). Lets just say you maxed out your KR values and are pulling 8*, you could have also been running on the low octane table which should be another 4* or so. Im my experience on the dyno with the 112, every degree over 10* of advance equaled 10RWHP on my set-up up until 19*. Now, yours and mine are different but using that as a "guide", I see you losing like close to 75-100HP which is worth about .75 - 1 full second on the quarter mile. Once you nail down the tune, strap that other pulley on and retune for it and enjoy the new power. Going from a 3.2 to a 2.8 is a big difference. How were your intake air temps? That will kill the power as well. Find some way to get some logs ran and sent to your tuner. Some simple tweeks will make a HUGE difference. Quote
brobradh77 Posted August 24, 2008 Report Posted August 24, 2008 no i had slicks on it I think he meant all the way around not just on the back Quote
04CHASE Posted August 24, 2008 Report Posted August 24, 2008 having lighter wheels on the front of a 2wd truck wont help as much as a truck that uses front wheel for power. , Quote
JSTAL Posted August 24, 2008 Author Report Posted August 24, 2008 thanks guys im learning the go fast shit the hard way ill get it right dont worry Quote

Sean is a world class tuner you just have some many kinks in your truck you need to work out and he cant tune a truck with the little issues it has. Of coarse when someone tells you not to run anything more than a 101 unleaded race fuel make sure you look at what you buy next time. Edited August 26, 2008 by sprayed99 (see edit history) Quote

Uh what does putting the wrong fuel in my truck have anything to do with him not being able to figure out my tranny tune. Ive been down there alot to see him (250miles one way) and its not right not to mention every time im there im made to feel like a inconvienence or im bothering him to tune my truck. I love coming to hang out with you and working on trucks, but i dont think its wrong wanting my truck right. Danny as my builder and the brains behind my truck maybe you should have posted something to the effect of "dont worry jason we will figure this out" instead of being a smartass. I know sean is a good tuner but there is nothing wrong with me wanting hp tuners so i can log runs and tweak stuff. i dont just have exhuast and cai im FI i dont want to blow my shit up because of little "kinks" and 14.3 is not a little kink Quote
Justin Lamanna Posted August 26, 2008 Report Posted August 26, 2008 (edited) get it tuned and you'll be fine. let us know what you find out. Edited August 26, 2008 by Justin Lamanna (see edit history) Quote
