1 Fast SS Posted August 24, 2008 Report Posted August 24, 2008 I really don't drive my truck that much anymore, and I don't drive it in the rain either. I keep it spotless inside and out, and always thinking of new ways to show it off appearance wise, so I was wondering if anyone else has taken out their plastic wheel wells from the front fenders. I was thinking that it might keep the motor cooler, but not sure. I know the reason they are there, such as keeping the rain water from getting into the engine compartment, and dust etc., but does it also keep turbulance out too? I took one of mine out one day, and it looked pretty cool showing off the nickle plated headers. Anyone have any pros and cons? Terry Quote
Chevyman03SS Posted August 24, 2008 Report Posted August 24, 2008 Well i took the well wells out of my 68 chevy and the engine bay got really dirty really fast!!!! Buutttt it does looks good!!!! There are ups and downs!!!! Quote
12'SROCK Posted August 24, 2008 Report Posted August 24, 2008 if your not laying frame. . . . .i would leave the fender wells on IMO Quote
70chevy03ss Posted August 24, 2008 Report Posted August 24, 2008 On horsepower tv they said to leave them in. They took them off on project NOVA. if you are racing all the air gets under there and they said it will kind of lift the car.. I would leave them in.. Quote
KJT13 Posted August 24, 2008 Report Posted August 24, 2008 i'd leave them in as well. i saw a tip on how to keep them cleaner longer on horsepowertv, after you clean them up, spray them down with some wd-40. that will keep mud and road dirt from sticking to them. Quote

Yep, I saw the same show. When they had the Nova at the track and Roy Hill was telling them about the turbulance. That's why I asked the question. Well I guess I won't be taking them out. It was just a thought. You can use WD-40, but I use the tire shine on mine. It doesn't collect the dirt like WD-40 does. When ever I clean the truck, and shine the tires up, I'll wipe down the wheel wells and shoot some Black magic on them. I also clean the rear ones too. Keeps the truck looking new. I always get comments on how clean it looks, and they will ask what year it is. I guess that's just an advantage of having a sunday driving hot rod. Quote
SS Silv Posted August 24, 2008 Report Posted August 24, 2008 Everytime I wash my truck, I will spray them with Simple Green, let it dwell for 5 minutes and I am lucky enough to have access to a heated pressure washer. They come out spotless. Quote

I always neglect my wells. mainly because everytime I clean it, it rains that night or the next day. we've had a ton of rain this summer so its been hard to keep it clean. next time I put some time into it, I will try the tire shine. I have Black Magic as well. Quote
