my shocks are old on my 99 sierra z71 i get horrible body roll and i would like to get new upgraded shocks. i don't want to spend a WHOLE lot on them but want something stiffer than stock that will handle better i plan on installing drop shackles and spindles around the same time as the shocks. what is the best kind to get and should i get some with shorter travel? i don't want to look like some lowrider i want to lower my truck just a little and i want to do it for handling not so much for looks. what would yall suggest?

thanks in advanced

Most brand namebrand aftermarket shocks will be ten times better than your old ones. However, I have always liked Bilstein shocks personally. Now the size will depend on the amount of drop you want to go with. I would call Bilstein and tell them what you are looking for and i'm sure they can get the right ones for you. On a side note if you are looking for better handleing I would look into a new bushing kit. The kit includes new sway bar and endlink bushing. There is a post on here somewhere about the bushing kit. I heard it's cheap, and easy for the performance you get. Hope this helps! :chevy:

alright i have a couple of questions. will i gain more preformance with new spindles and shackles. i kinda dont want to pay 250 for spindles. i dont care about it being low i just want a little more handling. will a 1 or 2 inch drop shackle and new set of shocks help alot? and will a drop spindle help more? also should i get shocks the same height as factory or get shorter ones? and how much do those bushing sets cost? maybe i will do that next

Doing the sway bar upgrade will help, LINKY quite allot. Very inexpensive and easy to do with simple hand tools. If you have access to a drive on lift its even easier. Adding a rear sway bar will help as well.

As far as a performance gain from a 2/2 drop, IMHO, yes because you lower your center of gravity but if you drop without upgrading your shocks and bushings, once again IMHO, it wont help.

I was like you, didnt want the low rider look but wanted better handeling so I went with the BellTech 2/2 drop and am very pleased with the results. See for yourself, LINKY

Do some reading in the Suspension section, there is a ton of information there.

I just noticed that you said you have stock 99 shocks. If you just replace those with the BellTech Streets and do the sway bar upgrade I think you will be surprised at the difference.
