NashSS Posted August 29, 2008 Report Posted August 29, 2008 Ok well I went out to my truck tonight after a 10hr shift and it was really foggy so of course the moisture is at its peak obviously and went to turn my truck and nothing happened. the truck had complete power everything turned on and the volts meter showed around 12ish. This has happened to me once before but early spring though. anyway so I put the parking break on and move this shifter to neutral and tried and nothing so then I put it in park again and tried it nothing and then it cranked for a second so I tried it again and it fired up. It drove just fine but I didn't dare shut if off without getting it home just incase. I haven't tried to start it again cuz its late so hopefully tomorrow it will be fine. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced a problem? Like i said this has only happened to me once before so I'm kinda gettin worried. Thanks. Quote
tgyotoku83 Posted August 29, 2008 Report Posted August 29, 2008 I would try to change out the fuse for the starter as it may be going out... This was happening to my lil sister and that was the start of the problem. Eventually she had to change out the starter cuz it was going out. No more problems for her after that. Quote
NashSS Posted August 29, 2008 Author Report Posted August 29, 2008 How old is your battery? the battery is the original that came in the truck so over 5 years old but the truck only has 30k miles on it and everything else had full and complete power so its not like the battery was weak. Quote
Fireman31 Posted August 29, 2008 Report Posted August 29, 2008 well I would check both the battery and starter just to be safe, thats about the longest i've ever seen a Delco battery last....... Quote
ccgoodwrench Posted August 29, 2008 Report Posted August 29, 2008 The starter might have a dead spot in it, Also i have my original delco battery and at 31,000 miles so far no prolbems. Check the color of the eye on top of the battery, it should be green. Quote
NashSS Posted September 29, 2008 Author Report Posted September 29, 2008 Ok well since my last post in this topic my truck has been fine until today. I went out and nothing same symptoms as before. My grandpa seems to think it might be the neutral switch or the ignition switch. This is becoming more of an issue so something is wrong but I know if I take it to a stealership they won't be able to find anything because the dam thing would probably start. I was outside trying it for the 3rd time. i decided to eat some lunch and let it sit for a min. I don't know whats going on but this thing is really starting to piss me off. I do have the pcm custom tuned could that cause a problem? This is my first fullsize truck and this is making me not want another one. Quote
Fireman31 Posted September 29, 2008 Report Posted September 29, 2008 I don't think it's your PCM, it's ignition related.....and I think you hit the nail on the head, most likely a bad ignition switch or a bad park safety switch. Quote
NashSS Posted September 29, 2008 Author Report Posted September 29, 2008 well i got it started but I should probably take it in and have it looked at. Quote
Super Silverado Posted October 12, 2008 Report Posted October 12, 2008 well i got it started but I should probably take it in and have it looked at. Take it to the dealer. They have all kinds of tools and instruments to find these problems. Depending on the issue they could probably still find it even if your truck were to keep starting up. My opinion, its not worth the stress of wondering your truck is going to start up or not. Quote
NashSS Posted April 26, 2009 Author Report Posted April 26, 2009 well my truck once again is being a biotch. we have enormous amounts of rain here last night and its still going but my truck once again wont start and I don't have the money to fix it. Im afraid to take it somewhere and park it thinking it might not start back up again. Quote
Quinnster Posted April 26, 2009 Report Posted April 26, 2009 Do you have an aftermarket alarm? Cuz the ignition relay went out on my alarm, which wouldn't allow me to start my truck till i got a new one or bypassed it. Quote
Generalms02 Posted April 26, 2009 Report Posted April 26, 2009 well my truck once again is being a biotch. we have enormous amounts of rain here last night and its still going but my truck once again wont start and I don't have the money to fix it. Im afraid to take it somewhere and park it thinking it might not start back up again. Did you ever have the battery and/or the started checked? They check them for free at Kragen. Have you found out anything since you started having this problem? Quote
NashSS Posted April 26, 2009 Author Report Posted April 26, 2009 No I don't have a aftermarket alarm and no generalms02 i didn't have the battery or starter checked but the eye on my battery is still showing green and everything else worked at full power. when i tried to start i wasnt even getting a click or anything just complete silence besides the noise from the gauge cluster. it started again luckily and while i was trying i was about ready to give up and the last time i tried to start it I turned it over and then it just started to turn so i tried again and surely enough it started so I'm thinking it may be the ingnition switch but it only seems to happen every 6 months cuz it happened last spring and then again in october and now here 6-7 months later it did it again. also while i was trying to change it the computer reset the engine oil life by itself so im wondering whats up with that but everything else stayed the same like the avg mileage and stuff. im gonna call and talk to a tech tomorrow and see what the hell could possibly be wrong with it but right now im just happy i have my truck again and not a 16,000 dollar paper weight. surferboy97 Posted April 26, 2009 Report Posted April 26, 2009 My truck had similar problems and it ended up being the alternator. I thought it was my battery and other things like posted. But just a thought. Quote
