so i was on my way to the job site today when i saw two strays, one male pit bull (about 2 years old) and one female bassett hound (about 10 months old). i pull over and lure them to me with an empty jack n the box bag, and of course, no collars for i.d., the pit bull was a little more friendly than the bassett. so i call melissa to give me the number for animal control, the eta was about 2 hrs, so since i didn't want to try to pick the pit bull up and put him in the truck, i picked the bassett up knowing that the pit would folllow me. i walked about a mile to this ranch to see if they can hold them for me since animal control would be a while an i needed to work. they weren't very helpful so i started walking back to my truck. the pit was all over the place, chasing cows and finally a car that drove by. i lost track of the pit after that, so i just wanted to make sure the bassett would be ok, since i have two of my own, plus i know that she would have been a snack for the pit if he had got hungry enough. she was really skinny and she yellped when i picked her up, i tried giving her some water, but she didn't take. so finally the officer got there and took her, she'll go up for adoption in three days, so if anyone near by wants her let me know cuz i'd love to see this pup go to someone that i can stay in contact with. i like doing these things because i would hope that someone would do the same for my dogs if they ever got out. here is a pic:

Alan you are truly an  to this dog. Had you not stopped, this ones fate could have been much worse. I feel bad for her, if I were 1500 miles closer i'd adopt her.

 to you brother!

I own a beagle and wish I could adopt that Basset but I am on the east coast.

I too saw a stray pitbull on an off ramp out here on 495. It was cowering with its tail between its legs staring into a bush on the grass between on/off ramps. I tried to stop but some yahoo behind me almost slammed me and I kept going. Wanted to call police but out here they woulda said good riddance as they are trying to outlaw Pitbulls, Rottwiellers and Dobermans. Id love to meet the ex owner. :fume::mad:

Wody thank you for saving the animals life. You can tell it was abused by the eyes, its scared looking into the camera and doesnt want to make eye contact. Please let us know how she does.

she was really tired. she cuddled up next to me while i was driving. that was another reason why i carried her, she was just too malnourished and was exhausted. she did snap at the other dogs that were at the ranch, but only because she felt threatened. i love pups and if i didn't already have two here at my place and two at my moms, she would have come home with me thats for sure. she would fit right in at my moms with my other two bassett hounds. when i put her down to see if she wanted to relieve herself she followed me around, so she had already bonded to me. i wish i could have kept her, her name would have been sandie.

one other point is that it was about 103* out and humid.

What animal control center/dog pound is she at? Let me know the address, phone number or website as I want to call and chat with these people to see how much shipping would cost (yes I am an animal lover but I cant figure out another way to get her here, I know shipping an animal boxed up is cruel as hell in my eyes but Id give her a great home with cleo the beagle). Ive seen some basset hounds, and she is one of the cutest yet.

i just called the shelter, and the lady was kind of a bitch and didn't really help me. i checked their website and tried to search for her and couldn't find her either. may have to go there and check it out.
