I finally got a chance to run my new (to me) '05 SS and it ran a lot stronger than I anticipated so I'm curious if it has some mods that aren't easily seen (cam/stall) or if it's just a really strong running truck from the factory. First let me say I don't have any exact numbers for you just that I ran really close to two trucks that put down consistent 14.30's at the track and could stay inside the body of them. The Diesel is actually the faster of the two and when I hand shifted and didn't hit the rev limiter I actually managed to keep my front tires at his back tires.

Now on to my question! I can stall this on my first run to 27-2800 fairly easily but after the first run I only get 24-2500. Is that typical for a stock SS or does that sound like a light stall? Also it surges a bit if you try to roll into the throttle easily and will sometimes buck. At first I thought it was due to the AWD and 4.10s but now I'm curious if it might have a mild cam. I can't be running worse than a 14.60 as both those trucks on a bad day don't run any worse than that. The only thing I know is done to my truck is the dual in/out flowmaster in place of the stock muffler. It still has the rev limiter set at 5900 and shifts at 56-5700 if you put it in drive and hammer it.

FYI '04 duramax with a tune and '08 5.7 Tundra DC.

That sounds like something with a TB 4.2L converter in it or an aftermarket high stall converter. The stock converter is lucky to get over 2200rpm brake stall. Sounds like you need some programming to fix the shift points.

Thanks for the info Zippy! I knew there was something going on because I have never had a truck with a stock stall go that high but this is my first AWD truck so I wasn't sure if that helped get a better stall. That's probably all that's been done then. I have HP Tuners on the way so I can move my shift points up and kill the rev limiter. I was thinking of moving them to 6100, 6000 and 5900. Does that sound about right for a mostly stock truck? I should gain .15 in the 1/4 at least give the fact that hand shifting at 5900 gains a lot.
