Rays B4U Posted September 4, 2008 Report Posted September 4, 2008 that pretty b.a.m.f. i didnt likt the thing behind the rear window but i guess they had to have something to hold the strobes. Yeah and unfortunately they didn't need that hideous looking thing behind the rear windows for the strobes. I buy all the police equip for our department and they are making LED's that are brighter and are so small the mounting options for them are almost unlimited. Quote

There are so many different light packages out there, you could make 10,000 different versions. Like Ray said LEDs and strobes are so small now, they can be put anywhere. You could put hide-aways all over that truck without that wing thing and never know it. Quote
F1SSS Posted September 4, 2008 Report Posted September 4, 2008 I have police strobe lights in my front and rear lights. Not hooked up though, first owner took the switch and wires out but still have the bulbs their. Also have a police antanae (however thats spelled). Quote

What type of wires and switch do I need? I spoke to a cop yesterday about them and he said there perfectly legal as long I dont try to pull someone over and the actual bulbs themselves are not colored. Quote

As long as your hideaways are clear you are fine. You will need a strobe power supply, switch panel, and 16 guage wire......you should be able to get everything you need from Gall's........ www.galls.com Quote

Also, great advice, do not use them while on public roads, and while moving. What you need, depends on the exact set-up, and what was left behind. Most common things you'll need is a strobe power source, and the bulbs will run at 60 and 90 watts, usually. Depending on the power source used, some just have a remote turn on switch like an amp would have. Personally, never did the strobe hide-aways, I did the LED hide-aways. www.whelen.com may be a place to look at for some info and specs. Though, double check with your local and state laws first, just because on officer said it was ok, doesn't mean it's legal. My advice, only use them at car shows. Even if you are not trying to pull someone over (impersonating (sp?) an officer) you can still get nailed for impersonating an emergency vehicle/DOT vehicle. Quote
