zippy Posted September 6, 2008 Report Posted September 6, 2008 Getting ready to swap it out anything crazy i need to know before i do it?? Are you putting another 65E back in? I would recomend buying some of the transmission cooler line clips to keep around for just in case. Those buggers fly fast if you lose one. What converter are you installing? What fluid are you going to use? Quote

shadowsniper3006 Posted September 8, 2008 Report Posted September 8, 2008 i used a 90 degree pick owl to remove the little clips for the trans cooler lines. Make sure to support the motor when the trans is out with another jack. Lowering the motor and trans makes it a lot easier to get to the top bell housing bolts. Buy more transfer case oil, it's easier to go from the top of the motor to put the 2 brackets back on the top 2 bell housing studs(you can get a hand behind the intake by going through the number 7 side, passenger side above the valve cover). The bell housing studs are 15mm nuts with 13mm nuts on them for holding the brackets(make sure to have 15 and 13mm 3/8 drive u-joints). make sure not to pinch the brackets between the block and bell housing when you put her back in. Lock tight the old converter bolts or just buy new gm bolts with the lock tight on them. you can use a socket on the crank to turn the motor over for the converter bolts or use a thick screw driver or prybar to rotate the flywheel through the bell housing hole by prying on the teeth in the direction you want it to turn. Do not rotate the caps of the u-joints on the drive shafts ones you get it out. That all i can think of right now. Brad Quote
