dmf21209 Posted September 5, 2008 Report Posted September 5, 2008 http://turnkeyenginesupply.com/streetpackages.html found this earlier today, and seems to be perfect for me, but wanna know if it's really worth it...pricewise. Why it works for me is because I'm not at that level yet to where I can pick up a block and build my own, more along the lines of I'm still foggy on parts selection(what cams to go with, heads, etc.). Really wanna learn, but not on my truck at first though, maybe on a $1000 beater or somethin that would have "cheaper mistakes" . Anyways, shot a few emails back and forth with them and their motors have a 12 month/12000 mile warranty, are ran/broke in before they ship em out so they're ready to be beat on from the first start, and it's pretty noob-friendly on the install. So yeah, any thoughts on these would be helpful, could change alot of plans I have for my truck. Oh and not sure which one of their motors I'd go with yet. thanks! Quote
detjoe Posted September 5, 2008 Report Posted September 5, 2008 swapping an engine is not somting you want to do twice...so even if it has a warranty its still a BIG PITA if it does fail. Spend the extra and get something tested. Quote

Just curious, but is this for your 05' AWD SSS? Is there some kind of power level you're shooting for? Quote
Black2003SS Posted September 10, 2008 Report Posted September 10, 2008 One red flag that I possibly see is that they are building them with only 9.5:1 compression. The 390hp engine says no performance camshaft, so I would question that. Also, I would question what performance camshft they are using. Also, the 470hp version says nothing about performance heads. For $7,500, there are alot of members on here that could build you a killer motor with superior parts. I recommend two alternatives for you to look at if you are willing to put that kind of money into this project. #1 www.texas-speed.com 408ci http://www.texas-speed.com/shop/item.asp?i...45&catid=28 #2 SLP Performance Parts www.slponline.com http://www.slponline.com/view_product.asp?P=12524M24 Either one will be pretty much turn key and give you a smile ear to ear. The only downside with the SLP engine is that its the L92 and would require slight modification to the water pump and accessory pulleys which may be beyond the scope of your desires to accomplish during install. Texas Speed stands by their work as well. Give them a call and they will help you select the right parts within your budget. Quote

And zippy, I'm lookin to hit around 600 or basically get my truck into the low 11's. I know it's a bit pricey and may be a little overkill for what I want and all that, but that's what it's all about isnt it? And yes, I will be focusing on the tranny first before I even would look at my bank accounts for this. Quote
adams2003 Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 Turynkey is big in the sandrail market. IMO they are a good company, but overpriced. Quote
dmf21209 Posted September 11, 2008 Author Report Posted September 11, 2008 yeah, overpriced a tid bit, but I would just like the convenience. Now, being new to the LQ9(well, GM in general), about how much power can be pulled out of em? Would it suffice for my goals? Quote
zippy Posted September 12, 2008 Report Posted September 12, 2008 I'd also look into Scoggin Dickey. The SLP and Texas Speed are good choices too. Quote

Would it suffice for my goals? this is why ford guys hate us...they blow blocks apart @ like 300hp and I have personally seen a USED 6.0L w/turbo put down 600ish in a SSS then put down 800+ when transplanted into a GTO! I would compair all the parts that go into these build and then decide...get your excell out! Quote
