FwyFlyr Posted September 5, 2008 Report Posted September 5, 2008 With all the "Green" and Alternate Fuel talk, It seems that CNG would be one of the quickest to get to Market since the infrastructure is already there and there are millions of cars, trucks and busses running on it worldwide. The question is, What would it take to build a 500+hp motor running on CNG? I hear it is high octane so it would allow more boost / high compression ratios? But like E85, the actual miles per gallon / or whatever unit of measure... would be less than gasoline? I like the idea and propane too. Wondering what a HP addict could do with it? Quote

rojo_143 Posted September 8, 2008 Report Posted September 8, 2008 In the Navy I have driven a couple different CNG vehicles most being vans or bigger trucks. I know from first hand experience that it is a good alternative but it takes alot of work to convert and gas vehicle to CNG mainly in the part of the fuel tank the two major problems are the weight of the tank and the MPG of the CNG. For example the one van that I drove regularly had a 3500 PSI tank on it and a full tank would only get probably 45 to 50 miles and we would have to fill up again. Quote
mcmahan Posted September 8, 2008 Report Posted September 8, 2008 idk. but if it has high octain there has to be a way to get some ponys out of it Quote
