brobradh77 Posted September 7, 2008 Report Posted September 7, 2008 I have noticed over the past couple of days my wideband is acting screwy....if i give it like 1/4 throttle it either has me being waaaaay lean or waaaaay rich..in other words it pegs it as far as it can go one way or the other and the reading is just ---. I talked to danny and he thinks maybe the sensor is bad if thats possible....Any ideas? truck is running fine no codes or anything. Quote
Krambo Posted September 8, 2008 Report Posted September 8, 2008 What brand wideband do you have??? Can you do a free air calibration it??? Quote
brobradh77 Posted September 8, 2008 Author Report Posted September 8, 2008 I have a digital AEM...and i do not know what free air calibration is??? Quote
Rausche Posted September 9, 2008 Report Posted September 9, 2008 http://www.aempower.com/images/products/In...0Controller.pdf It looks like you can't do a free-air calibration with that unit... Sensor might be going bad, they usually only last 60,000 miles, but: Notes:The sensor contains a ceramic module and should not be subject to mechanical or thermal shock or it may be damaged. The sensor is not designed for operation on leaded fuels, doing so will dramatically shorten sensor life. Long term running in the rich region (Lambda < 0.95) will shorten sensor life. High exhaust temperatures (over 850C) will shorten sensor life. Engine oil consumption at a rate greater than 1 quart per1,000 miles will shorten sensor life. Do not run the engine with the UEGO sensor installed without power applied to the controller and the sensor plugged in. You have most likely done at least a couple of those things... Time to buy a new Bosch LSU4.2, doesn't hurt anything to replace it... Quote
Krambo Posted September 9, 2008 Report Posted September 9, 2008 Sorry Brad, I missed your reply. Anyway, some widebands can do a free air calibration which will remove the % error the sensor is reading which increases over time. It is only a 1 point calibration relying on the O2 content of "free air" so I really do not hold it to a high standard. Most lab instrumentation is calibrated using a linear 3 point slope which is more acruate. Anyway, your wideband cannot do this function as Alex noted. I would consider spending some cash on a new sensor (not the gauge) as your symptoms appear to sensor related and not engine related. Did you try calling AEM and discussing the issue with their tech service? Quote

I hope i haven't done any of those things..I may have 10K miles on it and i dont hot rod...I had to drive thru some water 3 weeks ago that was about 6"-1' deep so i may have got it wet? Is that the right Part Number? Thanks Sorry Brad, I missed your reply.
