scooter3 Posted September 10, 2008 Report Posted September 10, 2008 Hey guys, My nephew is looking at an 06 SS, Silver Birch and had a question about the paint. He said that there seems to be some light spots in the paint, especially in the cladding. He said the cladding seems lighter then the sheet metal. The only answer I had for him was that silver is hard to feather in or match making light patches in the paint. Would this be a good assumption? Quote
Fireman31 Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 Thats a great assumtion if the truck was hit and the paint wasn't matched correctly. My SSS has had work done on the front bumper and you cannot tell it was even touched, a perfect paint match. The cladding on my truck matches the body color also........ Quote
mcmahan Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 yea my cladding matches my truck also. the only thing that it could be is if it had been hit or if the cladding got replaced, and the paint didnt get matched up just right or the paint could have ran a little in those spots and changed the look of it.. its really hard to say lots of possibilites..... scooter3 Posted September 11, 2008 Author Report Posted September 11, 2008 Thanks guys. They pulled a Carfax on the vehicle and no record of repair work. He went to look at it agian tonight so we will see if he pulls the trigger or not. Quote
slammedbowtie Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 if its a shady place. and they did the work themselves. then the repair might not show up on a carfax. cuz some places dont report things like that for sake of resale. unfortunately. i know alot of paint guys and some say that the factory colors today are very hard to match. so could be a repair. scooter3 Posted September 11, 2008 Author Report Posted September 11, 2008 The truck is actually sitting at a Carmax lot in Albuquerque, so I am not sure if they did the repair. Don't know much about Carmax since they are pretty new, but who knows. He said it is only on the drivers side passenger door. The cladding does not match as well as the rest of the door. He said the door shuts fine and he does not see any other damage to the door sill or underneath. Quote
slammedbowtie Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 could be fine. might be lighting? idk metallics are funny sometimes. if it was professionally done you wont see anything out of the ordinary anyway. cuz its fixed and prob new. well just make sure you check it out thoroughly.
