09kx250f567 Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 I have a 03 sss with a flowmaster catback and K&N intake. I want to get more power from it but dont want to spend alot. What should I get to make it faster? shorty headers? what gains would I get from a custom tune? Quote
Fireman31 Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 (edited) Shorty headers are not worth the money since they do not really provide any performance gains........get a custom tune and a 160* thermostat and you will see a big difference. black00chev Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 (edited) shorties are a waste, get LTs if anything... tune is worth every penny (live or dyno being even better then mail order). but id even like to know how much the 160* stat would help? 12'SROCK Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 ditch the flowmaster, get LT's, 160 stat, tune . . . . . you will feel a great improvement Quote
slammedbowtie Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 (edited) custom tune. def go with long tube headers if any. and idk why everyone hates flowmater. i see no problem with them, i guess they say the chambers are restrictive. i dont think it effects performance. i dont have flowmaster but i bet i flow more air then most others with chambered mufflers. leave it, its prob loud! lol Edited September 11, 2008 by slammedbowtie (see edit history) Quote
Fireman31 Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 but id even like to know how much the 160* stat would help? the lower operating temp allows your tuner to pull a few more degrees of timing Quote

black00chev Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 durrr.... i swear im retarded sometimes. now if gas would squeak back to under $3/gal I would consider running 93... business has been to slow for me lately to try and afford 93 fill ups. Quote

Justin Lamanna Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 do a cam, you'll get more HP gains that way and it will be cheaper than long tubes, IMO Quote

Seriously, it's only about 4-5 dollars difference per fill up. Every vehicle I own either runs 105 octane or 93. As for the headers, people have tested before and after with shorty's on the dyno and they do make a difference. With alot of tuning long tubes are worth about 25-30hp and shorty's are worth about 10-15hp. I'm with Justin, go for the cam first. Quote
dubdaddy420 Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 Do the cam! As soon as my warranty is up im throwing on a lingenfelter stage 3. Quote
09kx250f567 Posted September 11, 2008 Author Report Posted September 11, 2008 (edited) can someone post a link to were to get the cams or more info on it. Im only 17 so im kinda new to all this. I fill my tank with 87octane what would 93 do for me? Edited September 11, 2008 by 09kx250f567 (see edit history) Quote
