Hi guys, my speedo has been acting up for a couple months now. This evening didn't work at all on the way home. I also have a noise in the truck-started out like brake wear indicator squeal but I pulled all wheels, brakes are fine. I am wondering about wheel speed sensors since they are built into the hub & bearings. I can hear a metallic noise while driving beside divider wall on interstates, but not grinding like wheel bearing. Any ideas or experiences with similar scenario? Thanks for any input!!! :chevy:

your speedometer is faulty. it's a common problem on 2003-2006 silverados, particularly the SS. it was a factory recall. i believe GM sent letter saying that they were gonna recall ALL the silverados produced in that three year span..anyway it happened to me once before and i had it replaced under warranty. the stepper motor that moves the needle in the speedo guage is known to malfunction. All Silverado's are covered 7/70 on the speedometer, take yours to the dealer and they'll replace it.

He's right, GM issue'd a special policy extending the warrenty on the clusters for 03-04 Silverado's. The problem is common and even more common when it's cold outside.

too bad I got my letter after I already had 70K on the ss. Mine acts up in cold weather. Needle doesn't go down fast enough so when I speed up it says I'm going like 80 when I'm only going 50 mph. :banghead:

Thanks for the info-I will roll over 100k this morning. I'll have to call a friend of mine at the dealer to check on recall. I really appreciate your reply.

Still could be a wheel bearing. A bad wheel bering won't always cause a groan/grinding noise. Check to make sure you do not have warped brake rotors which are contacting the pads when you drive. Also check the heat/dust shield on the hub, if it gets bent inwards, it can contact the rotor also.
