black00chev Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 Hey everyone... I've done a little bit of searching but wanted to ask specificly for my situation. My truck is a Z71 4x4 which I want to lower to have it sit like an SS. I've already taken out the factory rear lift blocks which were almost 2" and that brought it just about level. But I really want to fill out the wheel wells and I'm wondering if anyone knows if I could get away with 2" shackles and maybe just turning the t-bars down some in the front or if I should go with spindles. I'm also unsure if I would need to shim for pinion angle dropping it that much or not. I'm sure its the same as if it were AWD but just want to see what would be the best thing to do. Not looking to slam it. Quote
benjaminh2 Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 spindles are the only way to go without sacrificing ride quality. IMO. Quote
kelleyperformance Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 spindles and shackles FTW.... but if you want a budget lowering job with hardly different ride results, get some aftermarket keys like ground force or belltech. lowering the stock ones is not a great idea. also, search for Mr. P's "how to" on drilling bump stops/jouncers in front. really improves ride quality on 2"-2"+ lowered vehicles Quote
black00chev Posted September 17, 2008 Author Report Posted September 17, 2008 Ok cool... Yea I was pretty sure on the shackles and spindles just never hurt to double check. My other question is would I need to shim for driveline angle or should I do it, drive it, and if there is no vibration dont worry? Quote
kelleyperformance Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 do it and drive it first, there is no pieces reomved in shackle installation to ease adding shims. so if you dont need em, dont waste the time Quote
black00chev Posted September 17, 2008 Author Report Posted September 17, 2008 (edited) Ok cool, sounds good. Spindles pretty easy to do as a driveway project? EDIT: Forgot to ask, who would be the best company to go with as far as the spindles and shackles go? Edited September 17, 2008 by black00chev (see edit history) Quote
mcmahan Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 spindles all the way bro..do it right Quote
dmf21209 Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 (edited) Ok cool, sounds good. Spindles pretty easy to do as a driveway project? EDIT: Forgot to ask, who would be the best company to go with as far as the spindles and shackles go? from what I've heard, belltech is the way to go, I just got my shackles in yesterday. Was gonna drop it just by turnin down the t-bars as well but think I will wait to get the belltech spindles. Some people go with mcgaughy's, but have heard mixed opinions. If you do the turn down of the torsion bar method, pretty damn cheap for a 2/2 drop! links for both Shackles: http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.a...mp;autoview=sku Spindles: http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.a...mp;autoview=sku Oh and yes spindles are a driveway project, for me anyways... there's a how-to on spindles on here Edited September 17, 2008 by DMF (see edit history) Quote
black00chev Posted September 18, 2008 Author Report Posted September 18, 2008 Sweet yea I was guessing Beltech would be one of the top choices. Should I also go with there shocks? I'm thinking if I have all that crap apart might as well replace them too. Quote
dmf21209 Posted September 18, 2008 Report Posted September 18, 2008 from my "searching" and many hours of researching, should do what I'm doin and go with bilstein's. Of course, all my shit is comin in as my paychecks come in so I'm not sure how all this works out. But bilsteins got a good rep Quote
kelleyperformance Posted September 18, 2008 Report Posted September 18, 2008 seeing as your a 00' i would do shocks, yours are prob worn out and the lowering will just make them function worse. go belltech with all parts, they are the best hands down. the mcgaughys are shit, you even loose some of your lock-to-lock steering ability Quote
black00chev Posted September 18, 2008 Author Report Posted September 18, 2008 You think beltech for shocks as well? After I get my wheels and tires, this is the next big thing ill be doing. Quote
