Fireman31 Posted September 22, 2008 Report Posted September 22, 2008 dose using 93 compaird to 91 or 87 any better? what gas dose everyone use im using 93 is it worth it? all my truck has is a catback and CAI In your case, you need to use a fuel that is 91 octane or higher. GM recommends the use of premium fuel in the SSS. The engine(LQ9) in the SSS has 10:1 compression, so in other words a low octane fuel will create knock/detonation which will hurt fuel economy and power. Quote
70chevy03ss Posted September 22, 2008 Report Posted September 22, 2008 Yes use the 91 or higher. i use 89 to "get away with it" truck ran fine but the TB built up a lot of carbon. So don't run anything eles Quote
09kx250f567 Posted September 22, 2008 Author Report Posted September 22, 2008 so whats better to use 91 or 93? Quote
70chevy03ss Posted September 22, 2008 Report Posted September 22, 2008 93 V power Shell. if you can't find 93 use 91 Quote
zippy Posted September 22, 2008 Report Posted September 22, 2008 I run premium fuel or E85 in all of my vehicles. In an SSS you shouldn't run anything less than 91 octane as it is factory programmed for it. Trust me, anything less and you will end up in the low octane table. It will appear to be running fine, after all it's just fuel. If you actually log the truck though you'll see that timing is reduced as well as KR* is happening. Quote
Champion201 Posted September 22, 2008 Report Posted September 22, 2008 The highest available. Out here in The Land Of Fruits And Nuts" thats 91 Quote
Badkarma Posted September 22, 2008 Report Posted September 22, 2008 91 here, if you can truely call it 91 that is. with +/- whateve this crappy state allows. you never know what your getting for fuel these days. Quote

Tzer Posted September 23, 2008 Report Posted September 23, 2008 I ran 91 for about 6 months.. But I finally found a station wth 93. So to answer your question. I'm running 93 now It's a few miles out of the way. It's unbranded but it's the same price or less then the 91 that's in town. Quote
ImpoSStor SS Posted September 23, 2008 Report Posted September 23, 2008 94 octane Sunoco Ultra. Quote
