twh231 Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 I've been working on this project for about 2 years now. I bought this 97 gmc for practically nothing because the whole front end was smashed. I put it together and painted it in my garage. As you can see i am making an ss clone out of it. I've been workin with a limited budget so it's been a slow process. I'm puttin this up here to get some suggestions on what else i should do to it and just to hear what everyone thinks Quote
haul@ss Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 looks good bro, only thing i dont like is how much bigger the front bumper is than the rest of the body. That is the street scene version right? If they made it less curvy and more straight to go with the square body type of the obs trucks it wouldve looked better. Plus the front bumper hangs a whole lot lower than the rest of the truck but this is all my opinion. gotta work with what ya got! You did a clean job though, all i can say is to drop that bitch, color match the mirrors, get a rollpan, and if you havent already, shave the tailgate. Other than that, great job! Quote
haul@ss Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 oh yeah n just a heads up, prepare for bashing of the ss badges.... I really dont care if you got em on but others here are really anal about that haha. Let the rest of the guys know if ya ever drive into anchorage! Quote
kweber1911 Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 i think it looks pretty good myself. i agree it should be lower...and possibly some body cladding if you could make it work. other than that....looks good Quote
JSTAL Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 i think it look nice i would say lower it for sure and a roll pan some tint and im not a fan of the badging but in your case i would leave them because its a obs. the one thing i would have done different is gone with a chevy front grill instead of a GMC = generic made chevy, gay mans chevy lol j/k keep up the good work Quote
20_blkss_04 Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 good job with the clone......take it from me dont show those badges i got my bashing when i did i took em off too many poeple didnt like it soo w/e but good job keep it up Quote
palletyard Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 i had a 1994 silverado 4WD back in 2005 and i did what u did ss wheels ans ss bumper on the lowering part do the 2 inch drop torsion keys and turn the bolt all the way down and in the back get the 2wd 4 inch drop leafs from beltech and a 2 inch drop shackles.. it will give u a 4 inch drop in the front and a 6 inch in the back and you will get a perfect alignment and u dont have to c notch the back either.. 100 percent positve on this as for the rest of the truck color match, rollpan and a chevy front end, tint. and as for the ss badges.... REMOVE THEM.. YOUR TRUCK IS NOT A REAL SS PERIOD Quote
DGIEPSS Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 you need to lower that beast other than that you are well on your way to a great truck Quote
slammedbowtie Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 you can get very low profile side skirts body kit for it from street scene i believe. and def needs a lower stance. looks good tho Quote
mcmahan Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 i had a 1994 silverado 4WD back in 2005 and i did what u did ss wheels ans ss bumper on the lowering part do the 2 inch drop torsion keys and turn the bolt all the way down and in the back get the 2wd 4 inch drop leafs from beltech and a 2 inch drop shackles.. it will give u a 4 inch drop in the front and a 6 inch in the back and you will get a perfect alignment and u dont have to c notch the back either.. 100 percent positve on this as for the rest of the truck color match, rollpan and a chevy front end, tint. and as for the ss badges.... haul@ss Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 I'm assuming you have a 4wd truck since ya in ak.. If so i think the obs ones have lift blocks you can remove and use 2wd u-bolts for an extra 2" drop in the rear... I know the nbs 4wd trucks have em, but not positive bout the obs... if they do, its a cheap drop along with the torsion turns Quote
black00chev Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 Looks pretty good! I agree needs to be lowered just a little bit. Quote
twh231 Posted September 25, 2008 Author Report Posted September 25, 2008 haul@ss, im in anchorage right now because im going to uaa, i think ive actually seen u drivin around. I'm glad someone suggested those side skirts i hadn't even thought of that i had kind of just decided to live with that. I'm gonna drop it over christmas break when i go home to fairbanks. the grill was mostly because i was too lazy to go look for the chevy one but i think im gonna do that over christmas too. I know i really need to change that rear bumper i hate it its so ugly. Oh ya it is the street scene bumper Quote
