SSChevroletset Posted September 29, 2008 Report Posted September 29, 2008 (edited) Today I just installed my Magnacharger Kit on my 03 Silverado SS AWD which I ordered from a fellow SilveradoSS.com member that included: - Magnacharger Radix Intercooled Supercharger kit - approximately 12K miles - complete kit minus the hand held programmer magnacharger ships with the kit - upgraded pulley installed for 8-9 lbs boost - revised tensioner asm - ECU from an '03 Silverado SS custom programmed for 8-9 lbs boost w/Meth injection - Alkycontrol.com progressive methanol injection kit The only other aftermarket part I have besides these is a Flowmaster exhaust. I have done oil changes every 2500 miles with Mobil 1 (Ha! what a waste) and the truck only has 46,000 miles. I installed it today with no problems whatsoever. I took it out for a drive, it was driving great. Then after sitting for about an hour, I took a friend for a ride around the neighborhood doing about 30mph, then gunned it, and BOOM! Heard a lot of internals busted and coasted back to my house. Pretty sure theres a rod through the block. Well this is my daily driver and I have no money to fix it! =) I can only hope my aftermarket Warranty will cover it. Well this is a lesson learned by me for anyone who wants to know what will happen with forced induction. Anyone know a place I can order a built motor for my truck for daily driving? Thanks. brobradh77 Posted September 29, 2008 Report Posted September 29, 2008 (edited) Wow..Did you have a wideband hooked up? Who did the install? Did you install Colder Spark PLugs? What mods did the PCM have on it for the tune...sounds to me your AFR was way off and went boom Edited September 29, 2008 by brobradh77 (see edit history) Quote
black00chev Posted September 29, 2008 Report Posted September 29, 2008 Sounds like you shouldve been hooked up and data logging before you started to romp around with it. Crap happens though, good luck with the warranty. Quote
SSChevroletset Posted September 29, 2008 Author Report Posted September 29, 2008 The wideband was on but not hooked up. I installed it with new iridium spark plugs and I am not sure on the PCM it was tuned with the same kit on my truck, so I installed it. Quote

You reallly needed to kow his mods...that makes a diff. in the tuning...wideband is probably the most important gauge you have for FI...it tells ya when your about to go boom. Quote
supersub Posted September 29, 2008 Report Posted September 29, 2008 put the top end back to stock first, then set up appiontment for warrenty,if that fails pick up a used lq4 6.0 from a local yard then work on the old one if can be saved. Truly sorry to here the bad news,if you need a hand call me! Ray Quote

I am a newby to this stuff, how do you read the meter to know its about to go boom. Quote
04CHASE Posted September 29, 2008 Report Posted September 29, 2008 I am a newby to this stuff, how do you read the meter to know its about to go boom. when it reads lean in boost, typically while in boost you want a 11.4-11.8 afr. on n/a setups you want mid 12's. idling and cruisng should be mid 14's anything above these can cause lean conditions and create excessive heat and cause catostrophic engine failure. im guessing something with fueling and spark were the cause, maybe not enough fuel pressure a lean tune or to much timing. did you hear any detonation before it popped? chpspecial Posted September 29, 2008 Report Posted September 29, 2008 Did you also upgrade the fuel system Quote
SSChevroletset Posted September 29, 2008 Author Report Posted September 29, 2008 I heard no detonation. I upgraded new fuel rails 42lb and the external fuel pump Quote
mcmahan Posted September 29, 2008 Report Posted September 29, 2008 wow man sorry to hear that good luck bro. Quote
zippy Posted September 29, 2008 Report Posted September 29, 2008 Sounds like the tune was lean and with too much timing. I'd also guess that the meth wasn't working correctly. Quote
Fireman31 Posted September 29, 2008 Report Posted September 29, 2008 What size pulley was on it? Using a tune from someone else's truck was a big mistake. Sorry to hear the news. Quote
SSChevroletset Posted September 29, 2008 Author Report Posted September 29, 2008 Size? It was upgraded running 9PSI thats all I know. If anyone knows good built long blocks that could point me in that direction that would be awesome thanks. Quote
