BigCountry Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 (edited) My 06 feels suprisingly strong. It's the 1st SS that I've driven, but It is a world of difference from any other stock GM truck I've ever driven. Now, it's not like my blown LQ4, but it still puts a smile on my face. A friend also has VMax that can hardly powerbrake, it mostly just loads up. and from a stand still only squeels the tires a little. My SS will roast the tires all the way through 1st. No traction at all until 2nd gear. Both trucks are 06's have 3.73 gears, 2wd and both bone stock down to the factory Goodyear tires. We haven't had the chance to line them up yet, but I'm sure it's coming. I would wonder if it had been tuned, but the shifting and TM feels to be stock, stock intake, stock exhaust, blah, blah, blah. You guys agree that this is how they pull? Edited September 30, 2008 by BigCountry (see edit history) Quote
shockx5 Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 I had a 2003 5.3 ext cab truck with: Wheatley tune, intake & exhaust. The day I traded it in for my SS I noted how they both felt. The SS, all stock, pulled a little harder than the 5.3 with all that in it. They don't call it an SS for no reason! Quote
Fireman31 Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 You thing it's strong now, add a CAI, cat-back, and custom tune, then tell us what you think. Quote

To start with , plenty of goodies to come Is it right that my SS seems that much stronger than my friends VHO? Thought they had the same drivetrain. Is the tuning different? Guess we'll have to line em up to see if the seat-o-meter is right or wrong. Quote
scooter3 Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 I have had a 2000 and 2002 Silverado both with 5.3's and one with a tune and neither one compares to my SS. They are strong trucks! Quote
FireRescueSS Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 All I can tell you, is that my '04 felt pretty darn stout when I first got it. Stayed that way for the first year even. Seems to be wearing off though, the CAI only made it feel better for about month. Can't even hear it anymore. Tax time is only 5 months away though Quote

F1SSS Posted October 1, 2008 Report Posted October 1, 2008 (edited) Grab a different pair of tires if your looking for better traction, those goodyears arent the best for traction but dont know what your preference is. But ya these trucks are some serious stuff. I drove my brothers 5.3 Z71 w/ K&N FIPK intake and Gibson exhaust and it felt like a nice little kick, but nothing close to the SS. You thing it's strong now, add a CAI, cat-back, and custom tune, then tell us what you think. I cant wait till I do that, my SS scared me $h!tless the first time I opened her up stock. Might have to get a pair of depends if I get a tune, exhaust and intake... Edited October 1, 2008 by 03maSSS (see edit history) Quote
chris B Posted October 1, 2008 Report Posted October 1, 2008 I think mine pulls hard up top but a little sluggish at lower speeds (i only have a CAI). but that maybe because i had a Grand Prix CompG supercharged for the last 4 years that i had alot of mods done to it. Quote

Can't say it scared me sh!tless, the truck I've got for sale is a 1500HD Sierra Quadrasteer (LQ4 4L80) with a radix, 60lb Motrons, 90mm LS2 tb, running 10lbs of boost. It's your average chipped Diesel's nightmare, haha. Just time for a change. But stock to stock, the SS would have made an a$$ out of my HD, but it is over 1000lbs lighter. Can't wait to turn the wick up on it I think I'm gonna run some Toyo Proxes when it's time for a change, I've been real happy with my last set. ss454327 Posted October 1, 2008 Report Posted October 1, 2008 My SS really didn't feel that much stonger than my '97 but it sure is a lot faster. I think the AWD makes these trucks feel slower so if you have a 2wd I bet it does feel strong. I like the AWD and 4.10s myself because I can pull the same times on the street as I can at the track without having slicks. That makes a lot of difference when racing someone 2-3 10ths faster at the track...they can't run the same on the street... Quote
mcmahan Posted October 1, 2008 Report Posted October 1, 2008 yea man my truck is exactly like your. i was very impressed mine is the first sss ive driven. but its going to change soon (dan) fireman 31 is a very knowlegable guy link up with him he wont steer you in the wrong direction.. Quote

It really doesn't have much to do with rev range/power band.......it more or less is due to a big heavy NA truck near stock vs. a lighter blown sedan thats modded.......of course the sedan feels faster. Trust me, I went from a modded L32 powered '04 GTP to an SSS also. Edited October 1, 2008 by Fireman31 (see edit history) Quote

I feel mine pulls hard on the bottom end and dies at the top? Great for the street IMO. When Ive raced stock lightings they get me on the top end, not the bottom. Id say Im ahead or at least even until about 50mph with them. Quote
